had a new arrival in the form of a 13,909 mile 2dr sedan survivor... soon to be 2dr ht once combined with a 57 belv 2dr ht suffering from severly pitted floors. trunk, and thin rockers.... almost a shame to cut up an original paint barnfind, but.. it is a bit dented, and posts and extra doors take all the fun away!
little things like the little gold dots intact on the dash trim for 57s, no scratches on the pushbutton sleeves from minimal usage, no wear on the pedals or armrests are things many dont get to see... this is actually my lowest mileage 57/8 to date... next closest low-mi cars clocked in at 19,xxx, 32xxx, 43xxx, and 48xxx... above 50 k is normal territory. this marks my 49th 57/8 plymouth of all body styles, 12th 57/8 of the current fleet.

I saw this car on "Lebay" Jim. Wow 13K original miles. You will make 1 nice car out of 2 as usual.

the 2drht donor was media blasted off its chassis, then laid back on for transport... the owner died, someone else who does cleanouts got it, left it outside for a stretch, then decided to sell it... very saveable as is... but... with a 13k survivor platform, chassis, cowl, etc, etc... the 2drht is far better than most projects people have been dealt lately... all it needs is minor floor work, outer rockers... typical stuff... it was for sale here as a package deal with a 2dr sedan to make a whole solid car- but nobody bit- now i make myself yet another rust-free 2drht in the end!

all plymouth floor sheetmetal is the same from 2dr sedan/ht to 4dr sedan/ht, the differences are in cross bracing for support pillars on a 4dr ht and the qtr connecting upper reinforcement on a 2drht.
I have done the 4dr sedan and 4drht to 2 dr conversion a few times now, the 2de sedan to ht will be the easier one, as the outer qtrs need minimal modification, its just a matter of structural transplant of roof structure/support changes where the c-pillars connect to the wheel well and package area structure. i'll be using the hardtop deck to rear window and package tray section compled to the ht roof, cross supports to floor/shaft tunnel, and all inner qtr structure with cross support intact. the key is to drill out the spot welds and clean the 4/2dr sedan floor well and plug weld it to the "new" floor. in one case i added gussets as an improement over factory structure, as a few spot welds on light gauge sheetmetal is a little lackig for a car that may try to twist itself under acceleration.

here's a pic of the test fit- i like to scribe it all in place, then tear back down, clean it all properly, then weld it permanently

on the 4drht, i cut all the pillar structure out, but left the upper "mirror image" floor brace intact to the rocker- unnecessary, but structure is structure- when its that solid why remove it, just added an additional layer of carpet padding in that area so the floor rise was less [if at all] noticeable. the floors were amazingly solid- scraping all the loose asphault coating exposed light to medium surface rust, but after hitting with black beauty to really test the integrity and a nice coat of rust locking paint, the floors were just short of factory perfect [with a little texture!]

probably should have kept this one.... in the end... all factory sheetmetal solid 2dr ht! regardless of what it "WAS" originally, what it is now is what matters to the world that wants these body styles...

so... right now its just a thought.... but maybe instead of cutting up a 2drht that only needs about 1/4 of the floors replaced, some rocker work and 1/2 a qtr panel due to denting... i think I'm going to go ahead and use the super straight 2dr qtrs off the 2dr sedan i just parted to replace the drivers' qtr on the hardtop, the r-car floor pans [that suck] for the floors, and have a 2drht AND a 2dr sedan in the end... 2 is better than 1- then maybe i'll run this 13xxx mile post around as a sorta-survivor... just with maybe... a tunnel ram sticking through the hood... gasser anyone???

The gasser idea sounds good, in my opinion.
