PostSubject: 2door sedan conversion into HT ???   Fri Aug 03, 2012 5:37 pm

Hi all, please don´t kill me for that, but...Did someone ever do that ? Is it possible to relocate the
rear section of the roof and make it shorter and also lower ?...remove the B-pillar and all ?
Do the 2 door sedans have the same door length like the HT ?
I´m asking because there are a few 2 door for sale sometimes but no Hartdtops , so since I´m good with welding and cutting, I´d like to try this
on a (rusty) project car....
I couldn´t find anything like this here on the forum, maybe someone can help.

Member Jim Rawa [FuryJim] has done several of these conversions, and some with using a 4-door donor car that come out quite nice.

The 2-door sedan to hardtop conversion is not too difficult, if you have a solid sedan, and rusty hardtop.
You need these parts from the hardtop, roof, rear deck panel, inner quarter window panel, glass, and tracks, as well as hardtop glass from the doors, vent windows, front and rear windshield.

Attempting this without a proper hardtop donor car would be excessive work, in my opinion.

John, thanks for the information. It was very helpful.
Since it´s hard to get a roof from a hardtop, I better get this out of my mind.
I have to check FuryJims conversion pics, though .
cheers,
CHRIS

Hey Chris. No one here is going to kill you for trying to save one of these old girls. I saw where someone had a 57 fury roof for sale a couple of months ago. Bet they have the other parts needed to do the conversion.

Just wondering if you could do a conversion easier like how this bloke did it down here but again you'd need a rusty 2 door to start with.

The next thing I need is the roof height difference between a 2 door sedan and a
Hardtop . It can´t be more than 2 inches, I suppose.... Question

Abe a freind of mine is currentley doing exactley that swap he has a restored nice 58 2dr sedan and hes doing the swap with a ht setup I sold him from a parts car i had last year, hes swapping the roof/package tray, both doors, and inner quarter window panels, hes curentley prepping the parts and will post pics once the actual swap starts, the roof is actually almost 3 inches taller and longer than the ht roof ,big difference in size. Jim Rawa "Furyjim"has done many of them ,and as Jag said the floorpan is same length on all of them only the bracing from floors up change, except for station wagon those are longer wheelbase.
check with "big M" John he just got in a 58 dodge that has the whole roof setup I believe thay are the same.

wow, 3 inches... that´s even more than I thought !
It´s a good idea with the Dodge HT roof, but I think it will cost me a fortune to ship that to germany :-(
I was more thinking of chopping and shortening a sedan roof.
My friend chopped a 50´mercury and other cars so maybe he can help me.
Regarding the glass, maybe it´s possible to cut it also to the right height.?

Or maybe I should just wait a little longer and buy a HT one day.
I´m 41 now and I´m looking for a 57 or 58 HT since I was 17 !!!
2 door Sedans are easier to get, that´s why I had that idea.
cheers,
Chris

The hts pop up from time to time often at good prices to me thats the best way to go if thats your favorite bodystyle,, I always wanted to do a conversion myself Ive just never had a sedan and ht laying around at the same time, Ive seen sedans in much better shape, the glass is tempered on these cars so I dont think you can cut any of it,the windshield is saftey glass. If you factor in your labor time and shipping its probably cheaper just to do a original ht , none of them are cheaper than the other to restore, but ht and convertibles still worth the most after restoration or even in running condition.
look through all craigslist ive found countless 57-58s plyms on there over the years just this year alone many many have popped up all over the country,at reasonable prices.

I found a 57 HT located in Ohio (on craigslist) but it was already gone ! Sad
Most of the Plymouth Cars I find on the internet are on (L)ebay, but it´s hard to find someone who sells worldwide.
I have bad luck when it comes to Plymouth coupes. I even found one in germany a couple of years ago, when I had the money on the next day (!) it was already sold....
But probably you´re right. I´m gonna wait a little longer and at the end
it´ll pay off.
Thanks again for all the tips, this is a great community here !
