PostSubject: Duke's 1970 Challenger R/T V.P. Tribute    Thu Aug 09, 2012 3:41 am

Finally got the tailpanel in and converted to a '70..

A few updates...I just had to see what the restored grille looked like now that I got my new emblems installed....
I did manage to get the bottom of the driver's fender and door repaired...

And Here's the 3.54:1 Trac Lok "COnverted" Dana 60 rear I picked up for the low,low price of $150.00...

..Repaired both sides of the roof where the factory quarters join at..

Got both front corner, rain gutters repaired..Yes, I know these are available, but This didn't cost me nuthin' but time..

As you can see, the Challengers have a problem with the lower rear edge of the trunk lids rusting out from water intrusion from the top corners..They seem to have put a small hole at each top corner and plugged from factory with a small plastic plug..I sealed this with sealer when the new lid was installed...

And here we have the new replacement trunk lid from AMD..

Away we go....

,
I bought the Cheap, "china" floor pan and had to weld the reinforcements for the seat bolts to the underside..Of course, it wasn't stamped deep enough and the pieces had to be bent down on the ends and welded length wise...

I had a few extra minutes to fab up the Dana's Pinion Snubber..(Truck rear)

Here is the finished Floor pan...

Here is the restored Dash Cluster..(Dash pad doing soon, as these things are over $900.00 redone. i will prolly be doing a dash cap)

And here's the LED dash lights.

Geesh, I let time creep by me messin' with that Camaro.....

A few updated pics of the progress, as the Cousin lost his contract (Military) and I caught a bit of a break with the Camaro, so back on the Dodge.

Chaney looking at what every one is doing should motivate me but your work intimidates me. Your just so good at what you do. The information that you pass on to us, so willingly, is priceless. Very Happy

Looks Awesome Chaney she looks like shes very close to cruising time, my lord what a change! You havent been messing around.
Thats one of my all time favorites, I clearly remember yr ago this guy had a 1970 challenger with the r/t paint red black, had a 360 with all the fixins, car would go 12.80s all day long, It was one of the bestlooking and soundiing cars Ive ever seen Ive wanted one ever since, they are just the epitome of Tough. had a 480 lift purple cam I beleive.

Now, If I could only get the guys on the Charger board to see what you see Bobby, I'd have ALOT less stress. They see my posts and take what I say completely wrong. I'm NOT well liked over there at all. In fact, I got kicked off the Challenger board all together (Banned). I know, can you believe it? i was floored. Of course, there are ALOT more guys that read ALOT more about how to do things automotive online and post it and when I post something contradicting them, they don't take well I guess. I mean no harm, just trying to I guess "protect" people from themselves and that's my first mistake.. Oh well, Back to work. And thanks Guys....

Oh wow! No need to feel intimidated Christine as my work pales in comparison to some people's right here, and on other sites I'm on. I do pretty much enough to make my cars driver's. Many will take it to the max and that's what makes restoring cars fun as you get to see how your car could look given you have the time and resources to do it to that level.

Thanks Carlos! Yes, I been trying to get this thing finished up so I can concentrate on the Camaro full time. Won't be long now. I've been following your progress as well. Won;t be long until your car hits the road. ANYBODY here that attempts these cars by themselves doing most of their own work are to be commended. This isn't easy by any means. This is why I always try to give just a little more encouragement to those when I see them beginning to slow down and get into a rut so to speak.

What a beauty! I remember the total rot box you started with. Can't get over the styling of that car. Do you have an idea of when she may go to paint?

Well, the area down here just lost one fo the best auto painters we'll ever have. Went back to Syracuse N.Y. (Job offer)..He has offered to paint my junk and the Camaro for me as he will come back down for it, but otherwise, it's back to the overpriced people here that do mediocre work for everybody else.

I have no idea when it will go to paint. It would seem everybody can only seem motivated once the top coat is on. I have ALOT of work to do yet before that shiney coat goes on as that will be the last thing before I begin driving it.

Name of Mike Vanhorne. VERY talented guy. Going to work for a chain of bodyshops.
I think he said the manager guy is named something like Greg, or gill or something.

Can't miss him, got tattoos all over his arms. Cool guy. We are good friends. he's member of the old board I think.

That would be Dukeboy aka Chaney's work. That car is amazing. He does all his own work and has built several cars HIMSELF including a General Lee and Christine. If I remember correctly he was doing a Camaro for his cousin as well. He has a reputation of restoring cars most people wouldn't even think about touching.
