Hey Folks, my 58 Belvedere is about to go for a new paint job, im not sure if i want to keep the original toreador red or go for more the Christine darker red color. Ive looked at a few posts and other websites and it seems to be GM Spectra red, does anyone know if that is indeed the correct movie car color?

Hi! I don't know if it is correct but it is real pretty and a popular choice. My pedal car is Toreador but my full size one is getting the Spectra. Someone else may be more helpful on the subject but I believe the correct color is the Toreador.

Now are you more confused then before? Hee! Hee!

Toreador Red, 1983 GM Spectra Red paint code 70, GM Spectra Red paint code 75, Scarlet Hot Hues..... if any one know I'd like to know as a Magazine editor is asking me exactly that question at the moment too.

My Christine is 1983 GM Camero Spectra red,

a commonly held thought is that that is what was used, but I'm far from convinced,

it looks good even if it might not be what was actually used.

i used 1983 Corvette Red on my glove box door,

i do not believe the hollywood body men would waste there time getting a certain color red, it seems more likely they would use and mix whatever reds they had available to paint the cars. i have scene used quarter panels from the moochie crush scene and it is a very poor quality paint

A fellow I spoke to from the Los Angeles area told me that he saw a good number of the movie cars in the lot at a 1-Day paint and body shop near him before the movie came out, so the cars would have been painted the generic red that the shop offered, most likely Flame red, as it was offered by quite a few chain 'quickie' paint shops.

Flame red is more like Toreador red, it is on the orange side of the color spectrum, where Spectra red is on the purple side of the color spectrum.

Hi Lee!
Very nice car!
I noticed at the very top and first photo, your car had a yellow license plate. Any chance that this could be the yellow California CQB-241 license plate pictured on the car, Christine, in the movie?
