PostSubject: My 1968 Dodge Monaco 500   Fri Oct 19, 2012 5:48 am

This is my 1968 Dodge Monaco 500 that I bought just last week. These are some of the photos that the seller took to sell the car and it was only 20 miles from my home! I've always loved big Dodges and I'm very fond of this one as my Dad owned a 1968 Polara in this very color. I remember that car well as I was 8 years old when my Dad bought it. Yes, this Dodge already has her name (naming her was easy). Wink "Monica" still has her original 383 motor, has only 67,000 miles and is completely rust free. Her front brakes did not work but I've since fixed them. It turned out the fluid in the master cylinder was very dirty. By just cleaning it out, adding new fluid and bleeding the brakes they now work just fine. I still have to fix an exhaust leak and finish cleaning her up. She does have some small dents and dings but is still wearing all her original paint. Amazingly, it still shines up very nicely. I'd like to keep this fine old survivor Dodge as original as possible.

I hope you enjoy the photos,

Bob

this is a sad story but my father bought a black 4 door 68 dodge monaco just like this with 60,000 original miles, car was rust free and very clean, guy came to the house and offered my dad a price he couldnt refuse, 2 weeks later we seen the car had big holes in the hood with pipes sticking out of it , and the windows all smashed out of it. we couldnt believe our eyes, dad asked the guy what the heck he did and he said he bought it for a demolition derby, we were both disgusted to say the least.

I saw the same thing at our local county fair a year or two ago. A real shame, it appeared to be a solid car.

Sorry to hear that Joe , Most of the cars I have sold, When I see them a little later the person has done the little things they have needed and makes you happy:)

Thanks Christine and everyone else too. I tend to drive one a couple times in a row...then switch to another...by the time I run them all, I'm usually ready to start the cycle over. However, this car is more of a driver so it will probably get driven more often than the others. These C-body Mopars have made great demolition derby cars for decades now... No

Hi Wayne, I decided to sell it. I didn't really think it was going to go anywhere as I had it for sale for 4 months...but it finally did this past August. There were a lot of tire kickers..wow! I had a lot of fun with that 41 Plymouth for 3 cruising seasons while I made a lot of improvements to it. When I put it up for sale, the plan was to simplify a bit...perhaps get down to 2 old cars? But this car found me a few weeks ago. It was right near me...only 20 miles away. When I saw that it was like my Dad's old car, rust free, low mileage and all original I couldn't resist. Well, actually I could resist for the price he was asking but he took substantially less, so I bought it.

PostSubject: Update: New Magnum 500 Mopar wheels and rubber   Sun Nov 04, 2012 10:31 pm

Had to go for it...found the original (type) Magnum 500 15" wheels on Craigslist and bought a new set of 235-75-15" Mastercraft white wall tires to go on them. The original wheels were 14" with 215-75-14" tires. What an improvement...don't you think?

The 'ol Dodge looks race ready now...doesn't she Idaho Bob? :affraid: Now I just need a big engine and a race track! Laughing
