PostSubject: 1958 Belvedere 318-350 swap   Thu Dec 13, 2012 9:09 pm

Hi all brand new to the forum. We have a 1958 Belvedere at our shop that we are doing a long term build on. The car is originally a 318 car but our customer bought a 350 golden comando engine to install in it. We just recently got it back from the engine builder and I installed it along with the used bellhousing yesterday. After bolting everything down the engine looks crooked or maybe even cocked in the engine compartment. Both motor mounts are sitting in the frame mounts correctly, all 8 converter bolts are tight and bolted in straight and the bellhousing is flush to the engine. I know the frame mounts are off center but this thing looks crooked. Anybody ever run into this problem?

Tough to diagnose without knowing what you started with. Judgeing by the title of this post the car had a 318. Was it a factory original V8 car? How about the motor mounts. 361 B block mounts will not work. They are different from the 350 mounts. Read this (about 3/4 of the way down the page) and check the pictures for reference purposes....

And to answer your question....the belvedere was originally a 318 torqueflight car. Do you know where I could locate a set of those mounts?

Your welcome. If you do have the wrong mounts check with John here on the forum (BIGM). He has if I recall one set left. Just look in the long vertical column to the right and you'll see his number as a Top Rated Seller.

Here is some pics of my 350/383. I used an old 383 to mockup engine and tranny combo.:

You know my right side mount will come out of the cup, I mean the rubber out of the cup. bujt when they are in the car and engine set in, no wayh will they pull out, I was going to replace mine and John Big M said you didn't need to it wouldn't pull out, I was thinking the same thing but was glad to hear from a great athority.

Redsled has as much torque as about any of them and I have a 4000 RPM convertor soI don't think anybody would have a problem, so don't worryh ikf theyh are loose in the cup. Smile

I do, indeed, have the mounts you need. I've left a message with Larry, so we'll get things going!
