PostSubject: Moochie's Demise   Fri Jan 18, 2013 12:17 am

Great part of the movie Christine...where Moochie gets munched. I think Christine is at her best in this scene...especially where she gets air and goes flying through the fence in pursuit of Moochie. The photos that Big M recently posted were the first I've seen Moochie since the 1983 movie. I honestly can say that I couldn't have picked him out of a line up. Same goes for Christine's other enemy there...Bill Ostrander...both look much different today. Did you ever wonder if they can actually relax and have a good time around Christine? I bet you they can never totally turn their back on her Exclamation Laughing They better watch out. Now that I think about it...Christine didn't like Leigh a whole lot either....Hmmm. I guess they all took their chances that day. Hee! Hee!

They all probably have a different perspective on the car than we do. They got to see the piles of junk that got hauled off after the scenes were shot.

Malcolm told me that he was really scared when they filmed this scene. There was a bulldozer on the other side of the brick wall that he was backed up against, and a cable running to the front lower frame on Christine. The cable ran right between Malcolm's legs, and he was a bit concerned about what might happen if the cable, or frame section snapped when the car was being pulled through the alleyway.

No kidding John? Wow...Never heard this story before...Makes total sense because no matter how powerful an engine was in any car, it could never get enough traction to crunch/push all that metal out of the way to fit inside a narrow alleyway like that. It would have to be pulled too by a big heavy machine of some sort...while the car was burning it's rear tires up "for show". Great scene...great trick photography.
I too would be a little nervous that the cable would snap or something would let go and take my legs out...and/or something else very near and dear to me too Embarassed (if the cable was between my legs) :affraid: And how about if all of a sudden the car moved too far and did just what the audience though happened to Moochie...in the end and he really did get crushed?

He had every right to be. A steel cable under that much tension could take your legs off if it snapped.

Just watched it again...couldn't see a cable between Moochies legs but something brand new occured to me this time. That looks like a loading dock. Why on earth would it be so narrow? Do you think this was a real loading dock (perhaps for fork truck use only) or a fake narrow loading dock created especially for this scene?

It had to be made for the movie, Bob. There is no reason a loading dock would ever be built and not be able to accomodate tractor trailers.

LOL Never thought to wonder why it got smaller. I did hear the fenders were made from rubber stuff. Some of the molds were laying around the Christine grave yard.

I was somewhat confused because after watching the Christine 1983 John Carpenter ( Filming Location Video), this dock is one of the spots they could not film (today) because it has been torn down. So they probably meant it was torn down because it was a "set" built for that scene?

Always very interesting how they did the special effects that time! Pretty cool! I don´t think that it would look much better in CGI today. But I always missed the bone cracking and blood spilling in the end of that scene. Sorry, I´m a little horror freak! Twisted Evil

i believe one of the cars in this scene had my quarter panels on it Very Happy . i always used my imagination and figured the loading dock was just for a towmotor and had no other purpose. i think i heard that someone actually owns the rubber fenders that was on Christine

exploring the 'movie theater' section and found this discussion about one of my favorite scenes in the movie (because of Christine at some of her best action)-- interesting details about how they did the end of that scene, I'd never heard that before...

FWIW, my favorite moment in that entire sequence is where Moochie yells at Christine (in the distance w/lights off) 'Cunningham is that you?', then BAM her lights go on bright and she peels out heading straight for him-- LOVE it  :Idaho Bob:

after actually talking to Malcolm (Moochie) in person i have to change my above statement, there were no rubber parts used on the car, that was an actual all steel car that was forced through the opening with a winch cable ran between Moochies legs  Shocked
