The little chrome cover on the rain drip edge on these cars always seems to be dinged up pretty bad. When you take it off is curls up. How do you floks get the little dings out of these things or does someone sell replacements?

The chrome cover already had some dings when I took it off to replace the roof rail weatherstrip. I had to be very careful and put it aside in a big radius, so it didn´t curl up that much it could wrinkle. When it´s bent, it´s too late. You may make it worse if you try to hammer the dings out.

I use a church key to remove these drip rail moldings, they will curl slightly, but straighten back out when reinstalled.

The stainless is very thin, about half as thick as other moldings on the car. I have had good success using a hardwood stick that is whittled to a point, the dents can be carefully massaged out if they are not too serious. If there are numerous dents, I would consider replacing the moldings, as the 2 and four door sedans use the same ones, and they are not too scarce.

when I took mine off i used a small block of wood on the underside of the gutter and gently tapped it off. The idea is not to remove the trim in one shot but to gently manouvre the lower edge off in large sections so that it stays straight. John is correct the if you do get slight curve it will go away when you put them back on!

Joe,

Just to clarify, the 2 and 4-door sedans have the same roof, but the 2-door HT is all by itself. Generally it was the Fury and belvedere only that received this trim, but I have seen a couple Savoy coupes that were so equipped as well.

ok John i understand now. i have a 2dr HT Savoy that explains why my car doesnt have it. so i am guessing the 2dr HT trim IS hard to come by?

Yes.

Being the moldings are most likely only on a Fury Or Belvedere, and 2-door HT '57-8, they are difficult to come by.
