PostSubject: IT'S NOT FAIR   Sat 7 Dec 2013 - 23:38

But he answered one of them, "I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous? So the last will be first, and the first will be last". MATTHEW 20:13-16

Jesus told a parable in which workers negotiated a fair wage for a day's labor in the vineyard. Later in the day, the owner hired additional laborers to also work in the vineyard. At the end of the day, all the workers received the same payment, despite the fact that some worked longer hours than others.

But this story is not really not about fair wages. It's about a heavenly Father who gives us more than we deserve. Since we cannot earn our salvation, we are dependent on the grace and generosity of God to give what only He can provide. The thief on the cross received the same salvation as Jesus' disciples. Does that seem fair? No. But then, it wasn't fair when Jesus died a torturous death to pay for our sins. God's graciousness may not be "fair," but in this case, fairness is highly overrated!

Insight: If I found myself in this situation, and I too felt it was unfair that my co-worker received as much pay as I did without working as long...shouldn't it immediately tell me that my focus is bad and that I'm only thinking about myself? If I truly loved my neighbor (like Jesus taught us to) I should be happy for him that he received the same pay as I did.

Prayer: Dear Lord..Thank you for giving me much more than I deserve. Help me to be glad for others when they receive more than they deserve as well. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit so I can comprehend your ways. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
