PostSubject: TREASURES OF DARKNESS   Sun Mar 30, 2014 10:46 pm

"I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name." ISAIAH 45:3

These are strange, puzzling words... seemingly a paradox. As I read them, I prayed, "Dear Lord, can it be that there are any treasures to be found in darkness?" And then I read Exodus 20:21: "The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was."

Universally, men have always associated God with light. Almost invariably, we link the Lord with brilliance and absence of shadow. But as you and I reflect on the dark periods of our lives, the Spirit of God is more than able to open up the full meaning of these Scriptures to us. Surely there have been times when we could have found God and heard His voice in the thick darkness. In some of our bleakest hours, we have had the opportunity to discover the "treasures of darkness."

Often in the dark night of trouble and worry, I have heard the incomparably sweet and comforting voice of the Master inviting me personally, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). My friend, do not fear the darkness. As Moses found God and His peace that passes all understanding there, so will you and I.

Insight: I have a personal testimony that lines right up with today's devotion. 17 years ago I was 20 years deep in chronic alcoholism and drug abuse. It was a miracle I was still alive let alone to experience the urgent need to make a radical change as I reached the bottom of my personal darkness. I cried out to the God of my youth, Jesus that I had met as an innocent child in Catholic Grade School. By the grace of God through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior, I am still clean and sober and learning day by day to live in His will. Everyone has a story...What's yours?

Dear Lord...Please help me to understand this thought provoking message. Help me to see the darkness in my life and when I do, help me to see You, feel the need for You and trust in You. Although my life is unique the need is the same. As a sinner, I know I need a Savior and His Name is Jesus. Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

The fact that you overcame this and remain clean through the grace of God is truly inspiring. Funny how this forum for example spells out the many sections to find answers to our technical questions about cars and now, we have this section which gives us the solutions to the problems that really matter! Smile Another wonderful message Bob! Thanks! Smile

Thank you Wayne...The Lord is so good. Oh, how I wish Jesus was as popular a topic in this world as classic cars are. Many times it takes someone to hit their low to start listening and take an interest in their Creator...as happened to me. I can't put it into words how grateful I am today for how He rescued me...for the remainder of this life and most importantly the next too! I pray others will sense the need to seek Christ too. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (paraphrased from John 14:6)

Bob
