Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

We human beings tend to identify ourselves with the worst things about us. A former pastor of mine used this as an illustration. There is a beautifully fresh painted white wall in front of me...but it has a small black spot right in the middle of it. What will my eyes go to and focus on? You're right...The small black spot...not the freshly painted white portion which is 99.9 % of what's in front of me.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, one of my favorite things about life with Jesus is that in Him, the truest thing about me is NOT the worst thing about me. The truest thing about me is that I am a new creation! The moment I chose to believe that for my sins...Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried and rose again three days later. The moment I received Him as my personal Savior...my sins were forgiven and forgotten. I have been redeemed and He loves me beyond my imagination. I have a personal relationship with Him through worship, prayer and meditation of the holy scriptures. He guides me through life now...my conscience works well now and my old sinful nature does not dominate me any longer.

For years I viewed myself through the lens of the failures and mistakes of old relationships. I let those regrets define me for a long time when what ought to have defined me was the love Christ has for me. "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness." (Jeremiah 31:3), This is what the Lord is telling me.

If you are following Jesus, He says the very same to you. With our identities bound up in being adopted children of the King of heaven, we get to live free of the guilt or condemnation of the past. We can leave it all behind, looking ahead to a new world in Christ. With Him we not only live free of the past, but we can live life abundantly right now.

INSIGHT: THINK ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF WITH THE THINGS JESUS SAYS OF YOU, NOT WHAT OTHERS SAY OF YOU.

Dear Lord, Let these promises sink deep into my heart so I will never forget. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
