I was just reading online how if one takes molasses, mixes it with seven parts of water and submerge your part in it, the rust will come right off in around 2 weeks. Has anyone tried this experiment as it would save from warping caused by sandblasting? Also, if anyone has tried this, does one need molasses with sulfur in it or does it matter? Was also reading about electrolysis and looks interesting as well.

Everything I read in the past said you need Sulfur in the Molasses. Go to a local farm feed store and buy feed grade molasses as it is a lot cheaper. People say don't eat it but farmers for years used it to make cattle feed more tasty to the pallet of the cattle. We used to pour it over insulage when I worked on a fram as a kid. Never saw a cow die from it. It is best if it comes from sugar beets rather then cane sugar.

Everywhere Ive phoned (feed stores) says that feed grade has no sulfur. My quest continues. Thanks anyway.

It does work as I have done it in the past, very messy tho. make sure all parts of the panel are submerged or they will rust worse due to evaporation of the watrer content. After about 2 weeks remove the panel and hose down with water, a gerny would be better. A better result would be to use a phosphoric acid solution in the water. Its a lot of work and a better result would be to take it to a competent sandblaster but it does work and doesnt cost a lot

When using a phosphoric acid solution, r u talking electrolysis? Oh, and also what do you mean "gerny?"

Phosforic acid is like rust buster, or any other rust desolving brand, its usually about 17% phosforic acid. Place it in a spray bottle and after you have washed it with water spray the solution around it then wipe off with a slightly damp cloth or you can use a high pressure water blaster(gerny) to blast off the malasis then spray with the solution, its not electrolosis, Big M is the man to talk to about that

Soda blasting, Baking soda/walnut shell media will not warp sheetmetal, straight sand may if its too thin , Media blast if you shop around probably is the cheapest route because its covers just about every part of the car. Phosphoric acid solutions work well but its tough to use that on large parts of you car like the body, basically what phosporic acid does is it converts rust to iron oxide, takes 24 hours maybe repeated doses on heavily rusted parts, the rust will turn black in color, then sand and prime the parts with preferrably epoxy primer as it provides incredible rust protection.
