Excellent find Brian! Wow! You absolutely hit the jackpot with that fine looking 57! I'm happy for you buddy!! Cool Can't wait to see your progress on her. Now please tell us your plans! Do you have your own garage, tools etc? single bay...or double bay for doing a frame off? Do you have experience in auto body...a friend to help? or will you be hiring that part out?

Thanks everyone! Smile I bought the car late October and when I seen it I knew I had to take here home. The passenger side rear quarter is the worst spot on the car. The driver side is clean no rust to speak of. The rockers are solid and the floor looks solid as well. Again so far the worst spot on the car is the passenger side rear quarter as seen in the picture. The car came with a lot of parts and I got everything to convert the front over to a 58. It had been sitting in a shed since 73 and until I showed up it hadn't seen daylight until then Smile But you want to know the best part! I didn't pay much at all for it!

If everything goes as planed I will put it on my rotisserie to restore it. Its much easier and also you get a good job that way. Ive got all the tools to do the job and will be having some help from a few friends of mine that do bodywork on the side. We basically help each other out with our projects. And we all have heated garages ha ha. I might bring it to my friends though he just built a new shop. So he said bring it on over! All the main work will be done here or my friends. But from there I take it to the local body shop and spray it in there booth.

Cheers! Very Happy

Thanks John, The worst part of the car is the passenger side rear quarter. The rockers, floors seem solid. Driver side is fine with nothing to speak of. My plan is to start on this early spring.. Or maybe even sooner. Im already getting antsy lol.

That's funny Joe. Miss Belvedere looks like a show car compared to what you started with. And i mean that in a nice way. It takes real dedication to take on  project like you did.

Marvelous. I'm so happy for you. A salvageable barn find. Beautiful car. Is the buff or gray interior color original?

Thanks Serge! Smile Yep I would put this car in the category of a barn find! It was in a shed since 1973 until I showed up! The interior color is original..I think I would call it a buff color as well. One thing it has is factory AC. But im not sure if thats a rare thing or not. I do have the build sheet for the car. That's cool. Smile Im just happy to have one in my possession !
Cheers Serge! Smile

Brian, I do believe A/C in these cars is relatively rare. Let's see if BigM or Bloodhound will comment. Wayne has been looking for another with A/C for component location photos as he's putting A/C in his Christine. I know he will certainly like this news!

Probably close to five percent of Plymouths in '57-'58 had factory air installed. Many more were fitted with A/C by the dealer, but the evap unit is a box that hangs beneath the dash, rather than installed on the firewall.

Thanks for the info John. Smile Im also curious of how common was it for a car to have solex tinted glass? Im guessing that must be common.

Will you be able to find a Solex windshield for her Brian? My Belvedere had Solex everywhere except for the windshield. It had one of those tinted on the top replacements in it. I bet Solex glass is much more common than the A/C Brian. My guess is that it would be about 50/50?

But 5% were made w/ AC John? I think there was ~67,000 2 door hardtops made in 57...that would mean about 3,350 were made with A/C. I think "relatively rare" would be appropriate? Continuing to look at those photos...man you found a great car there Brian. Good for you. I really look forward to you bringing her back to her former glory.

Thank you Bob, Its good to have you for a friend. The positive reinforcement makes me feel good about my purchase. I think I told you awhile back on what I paid for it. I think the only way to have a better deal would have been free ha ha lol.  But a big part of the enjoyment for me is bringing her back to her former glory. I so much love to see the progress of such a car.  The car has solex glass but of course the front windshield I was going to replace. I will see what I can find for it. I never thought anything at all about it having AC. So that's a plus. And by the sound of it not many came factory with it! Smile  Thanks again Bob!

You're welcome Brian...I'm really looking forward to your progress on this car. You did extremely well and I'm so happy that you found it. As far as I'm concerned, it couldn't have fallen into better hands. For all you've given of yourself...for all you've gone through...think of it as a blessing from God. You are also a great asset to this club! Positive, friendly, enthusiastic, and humble are just a few adjectives that come to mind when I think of you...and what you add to this club. It's good to have you as a friend too...right back at ya buddy!

I want to hear from someone about the Solar glass thing...someone out there has to know! I hope you can get a Solex replacement too! :-)

Brian you are far too kind. i think most A/C equipped cars had the solex glass option as the marketing was that it kept the inside of the car "cooler" i am sure Big M will point out if i am wrong. i will say other then a Fury you have a rare car Brian. i am assuming 318? 2 barrel or 4 barrel? or the rare 2x4 barrel?

Echo other congratulations on the great buy! I think the solex glass looks perfecto with the body lines of the Plymouth. Will be interesting to see what you can find for the replacement. Any other factory options? Power pack? P/S, P/B?

Joe is correct, if you ordered A/C, Solex glass came with it.

I bought a brand new Solex windshield for my Fury from Southern States Glass in Virginia about six years ago, and just installed it in my '57. It was the greenish tint, not the type with the shaded top.

Well I checked around and did find you can still get the green tinted windshield (solex type) yet. The price range seems to be right around $400. Some are a little cheaper and some a little more. You can get them in the green tint with no shaded top or with the shaded top portion. So I find that to be good news anyways. Smile

Brian,

I hope you don't mind my asking but what is your overall plan? Are you going to completely dissasemble her? Reason I ask is because she almost looks like the perfect candidate for a "driving resto"...

I'd love to see some more pictures of the dash, interior and AC Parts! Smile

Well my plan is to do a good restoration on her. Bring her back to her glory so to speak. I got a lot of good parts that came with the car so im very fortunate about that. And of course fortunate just to find a 2 door hardtop. But I do think one could do a driving resto on this car. I just haven't decided what direction I will go yet. Smile  Right now the car is covered up over the winter. I just wasn't prepared to find one so quick so when this one came up it caught me off guard and I wasn't prepared for it. And I sure wasn't going to pass up such a deal. So I jumped on it! Smile

Brian.
