Nice Chris! Non Power Steering Deluxe Horn Ring? I would say a fair price would be $125.00 Smile

Wow! Man o man! It's beautiful. Are going to do the slight resto or are sending it out to a guy like this:

Love the deluxe wheel. Makes all the difference in the word. The horn ring looks beautiful, too! Well done!

She is a beauty! I think 1957 centers are silver on the deluxe wheel. The gold will match the 'dots' on your dash trim! Marc.

Thanks Marc, I thought it was the other way round with the 58's being silver and 57's being gold but, in any event, I'm glad I was able to find one like this! Very Happy

Probably worth about $500.00 in that nice condition. A rare find, most have crumbled badly. Power or manual steering wheels are exactly the same, the add-on horn contact is different between the two, but they can be switched over.

What would you say is the biggest factor for causing deterioration? UV exposure or extreme temperature variations.

UV rays are the primary cause of the breakdown of the plastic. Extreme heat has a negative effect as well. Out here, good steering wheels are scarce, as the heat and sun degrades them quickly. I find good ones from time to time, but they are generally better on east coast or northeastern cars.

Thanks John for the info, this came from a guy in California but I wonder if that's where it originated from. He told me that he bought it at a swap meet and thought it must have been an early takeoff. I'm just pleased with the good condition!

So I was wondering if I should go ahead and paint the grips on my deluxe wheel as well, I don't really want to cause I like the original finish but I'm thinking if I paint them, it may help preserve the plastic better. What do you guys think?

You know Chris if you like the grips the way they are you could just paint the rest of the wheel and leave the grips and just clear over them as long as there clean so the clear sticks. A layer or two of clear over them would help protect them some im sure Smile I personally would probably scuff the grips a bit but if you want to keep the current look maybe just clean them and then clear over them. Just my 2 cents. Wink

Well I do like the patina, and the grips are cleaner now that I wiped them with alcohol, but would clear coating do anything for UV protection?
