Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

When rain falls in the desert, the water washes across arid lands carrying much-needed moisture to plants and animals. Desert willow trees often grow along these washes because the nourishment they need is there. A desert willow actually blooms during the hottest point in the summer and in turn provides food and shade for desert wildlife that lives there.

The "Tree Imagery" of the writer of this Psalm resonates with each and every one of us, whether it's desert willows or even thick forests of oaks. We all understand that a tree growing without a good water source dries out, loses its leaves, and dies. As true Bible believing Christians, we know in our hearts that we may survive for short time apart from our source of nourishment, the Bible. But to stand against the winds of adversity that this world bombards us with...and to be able to provide a shelter for others in need, we need the constant sustenance provided by a relationship with Jesus Christ. In order to find this relationship and to sustain this relationship we must read the Bible. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

Jesus is the source of our strength. He is our living water. Lord, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake You will be put to shame. Those who turn away from You will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water. Jeremiah 17:13. We can stand firm and grow strong along the waterway of God's Word. And in due season, He will produce fruit in us. Do you remember the old commercials, "Got Milk?" that promoted physical health? Well, in a similar way, I'd like to promote spiritual health today that will help you tremendously in the meantime and most importantly, lead to an eternity WITH your Creator. "Got Jesus?"

INSIGHT: Planted in God's Word, we can find much needed nourishment. Jesus faithfully increases our strength not only to find shelter for ourselves...but for others too.

Dear God, Lead my heart today to ask myself these questions while being honest with myself. Do I have a thirst for Your Holy Word, the Bible? Do I want to be like a tree planted by a stream of water? Do I want to produce fruit in season so I can find shelter in You and be a shelter for others in need of You? Do I really "Got Jesus?" In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen
