So after experimenting a bit I found another issue. Turns out the cartridge may not be good. The sound quality just didn't seem good enough to me so I manually applied pressure here and there and it would appear the contacts in the cartridge are worn and corroded. Good thing they can be had. $69.00 but needed if I want her to play at 100%. It uses a Sonotone 8t

Well Wayne, Make sure the tension on the needle is set correctly. Some of the jukes ive seen have an adjustment so the correct pressure is applied to the needle. With out the correct tension the sound quality would be affected. But a cartridge can go bad. Most of the ones ive come across that are bad the sound cuts in and out.

Good luck my friend! Smile

I purchased a new cartridge and will install it once I figure out how to measure the pressure as it is adjustable. I also updated and modified the original light harnesses I scored on ebay to T8 bulbs with an electronic ballast. The guy selling the dome glass came down in price so I scored that as well. Fortunately, the original lower grille red light diffuser cleaned up with some soap and water and looks great! As it stands everything is now plugged into a safe surge protector inside the cabinet

I have since connected the bluetooth audio and you were right Brian. Digital music sounds incredible through the tube amp. I don't have the speakers back yet so I'm using some smaller external speakers. Can't wait to hear it with the restored originals! Turns out they needed new voice coils and the whole works. Smile

Wow Wayne! That thing lights up like a Christmas tree! Bling bling! LOL Looks good Wayne. Im glad to hear that it sounds fantastic. I honestly think tube amps produce the most accurate sound and that's what imo is good sound. Some of the most expensive amps one could buy are tube amps. There has to be a reason for that. Wink

Just think what it will sound like with your new re-coned speakers.. As they say it will be off the chain! Smile

Cheerio!

The good news is the speakers are on their way back. Sadly, the 7" high frequency could not be reconed as parts are nla. They told me it tested perfectly on their equipment even with the glue thats smeared all over it so I guess I'll give it a whirl.

The bad news is the amp just crapped out so it will have to go to an expert. I had planned on sending it in anyway so no shock or surprise there. As it stands I'm going to just shine her up here and there and not do a total cosmetic restoration. The original colors and patina give it a unique character I've come to like quite a bit! Smile Here's to hoping she rocks the neighborhood as planned! Smile

Cool beans Wayne! Too bad about the amp but if you were gonna send it out anyway then I guess it's not a biggie then.

Got the fully restored speakers back and they look GREAT! They've had brand new voice coils, lead wires and cones installed! As for the small high frequency 7" speaker parts are nla. Fortunately it tested great even with the glue repair. This juke will finally have it's 100% original and authentic full speaker compliment!

The speaker repair shop told me the mid range speaker and bass speaker are very powerful as they are essentially loudspeakers with crystal clear sound! I'm really looking forward to getting the amp repaired now! Smile

Wayne, The re-cones came out awesome! Those gems should sound fantastic. If the guys tested it and it tested good then you should be good to go on the 7" high range speaker. And since the low and mid range drivers were the ones re-coned those are the ones that get all the power anyway. The 7" high range is the one that is capped and doesn't get full range power. Wink

That's what I assumed Brian. The 7' may not look pretty but she's as good as the day she was made so I'm not the least bit concerned. It's a shame that the amp had to quit. I'm chompin at the bit to fire things up with these monstrous speakers! LOL!

I'll get the amp boxed up and shipped on Monday. The guy has about a week turnaround so I may get my chance yet before it's to cold outside! I still can't bring her in the house because the wife says it makes the living room look "crowded". Gee... where have I heard that before? Laughing

That makes two of us Joe! Perhaps come spring when I fire Christine up for the first time you'll get your chance... Assuming your still coming that is. Smile

The Amp and Power Supply are boxed and ready to be shipped tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's fixable without to much trouble. Last thing I want to do is keep burning out tubes. The tube kit alone is $300.00!!!!!! Shocked

Assuming all goes well I'll be purchasing a new "Stereophonic Music" plastic valance come spring. Once I have that she'll be pretty much complete. Smile

I've got good news and bad news...

The amp arrived at the restorer today and being anxious to try and diagnose the issue he went through it with a fine tooth comb. He ran it all day and couldn't find any issues that would cause the problems I have been having. He did find a few loose solder joints here and there and a degraded resistor or two. He also thoroughly cleaned all the pin sockets and set them for proper contact. He also tested all the tubes and they are 100%... So the sound quality issue isn't with the amp itself.

The degraded and distorted sound quality issue I am having may lie with the bluetooth unit itself or a poor quality contact in the rca plugs. She'll be on her way back come Friday so next week I'll be doing some serious troubleshooting. Hope all goes well! Smile

Hope all goes well for you too Wayne. Smile
Sorry to hear that about the problems you are having with the juke...

With the bluetooth unit, the problem may just be coming from there. I have had a similar issue before with my bluetooth units. So maybe I can help you out...

So question- is your bluetooth system wireless? (Like no wire connecting the bluetooth device to your juke.)
If it is wireless, I have found out that the bluetooth device needs to be in very close range (like 3 feet or less) to where you are streaming the music to (the juke).
If it isn't in close range, the problem that you will have is the music will start cutting in and out and be distorted.

Also, another thing I found out that can distort the sound quality is if the bluetooth device isn't charged up enough.
When running bluetooth, I found out I can drain the battery on the bluetooth device pretty quick. At least that how it was with my iPod.
So, if the bluetooth device battery is low, the sound quality will be distorted because, well, the battery is low so it doesn't have enough power to stream music effectively.

Hope this helps... Smile

Wayne Im glad to hear the amp is good! As far as the Bluetooth device after checking what Jackie mentioned (which is good info from her) Smile  I would try the Bluetooth device on some other stereo if you can. That will at least tell you if its a Bluetooth problem. Another common problem with streaming music wireless is that it is very acceptable to interference from a wide range of things. So by eliminating that from a possible issue try and connect your ipod or music device directly to the juke itself through hard wire. RCA cable.  If doing all of this and still your not getting the right sound then its possible that the ml is to high for the amp. But at that stage give me a call because that is a whole other ball of wax!

Cheerio my friend! Good luck with your juke!

Brian.
