PostSubject: Ladies and Gentlmen, the Hemi Hideout   Wed Jan 28, 2015 9:58 pm

Just had to share this....

This past summer, a friend of mine in Texas, knowing how much of a Mopar fan I was, offered to show me a friend's collection of old cars outside of Houston.

We decided to stop by his friend's place in conjunction with a mini vacation to San Antonio with our wives. After long trip to the middle of nowhere, we turned down a narrow two-lane road and eventually ended up at a stately gate. I was fully expecting to see a couple of old cars in varying states of restoration in some old metal building on the back of the property. Instead, as we rounded a beautiful small lake, we approached what looked like a Cabellas. It was actually his friend's giant garage!

As we pulled under the sallyport, the owner met us at our vehicle. After a brief introduction, showed us around his "garage", aptly called the Hemi Hideout. It was the most incredible place I have ever seen. I seriously almost cried. That spectacular building housed an incredible collection of perfect original, or finely restored 1960s Mopars! They all had one thing in common: each were Hemi-Mopars.

In addition to the over two dozen cars, the "hideout" housed a 1950s style soda fountain/diner, dozens of working vintage neon dealership/gas station signs, an outdoor BBQ bar (with saddles for barstools) and an awesome sitting area with large leather chairs, perfect for smoking cigars and talking cars

The owner was one of the nicest guys I met while living in Texas. Although we visited with very little notice, he made us feel like he built the place just for us. He occasionally rents the place out for private special events and he has a Facebook page for it - if you like to see more pictures. My photo below, only shows about 1/4 of the cars and a small portion of the building.  Although there were no Christines, I figured you guys would appreciate this place as much as I did.  I'm just glad I was able to pull myself together for the photo.

Saw that coming, Bob! Thanks. Wayne, you'd get along great where I work, as long as you take as much grief as you give out!

More pictures? Incredibly, no. You'd just have to have been there to understand. It was like I was in his house, so taking pictures felt a bit awkward. Besides, I was busy looking at every car... I mean an original 1965 belvedere 2dr hard top with a factory (426?) Hemi and 4 speed... Had like 13,000 original miles... There was just soo much to see..
