Hi guys
I have received some vehicle numbers re a car I am looking at. I was supplied the following:
Engine: P31-136461

Hello John,

Are these off a 57 Plymouth? 58 Plymouth VIN Numbers start with LP2. As for 58 engine numbers the 318 starts with LP8 and the 350 number is L-350. Hope this helps! Smile

Hi Wayne
Yes these are off a 57 Belvedere.
I want to understand what each of these numbers tell me.
I know that these have some sort of code, for instance model of car, place of build, production number etc.. Etc.. but in could not find anything on the web that explains what these mean.

57's aren't my "thing" as far as numbers go. Perhaps BigM could shed some light in this...? Smile

John, have you googled those numbers along with the year make and model of the car and come up with anything? I did that recently with a 58 Plymouth VIN code and learned quite a bit...I did not however with the Body tag information.

We sure could use all the information about VIN, Body tag numbers that was on Plymouth Central.com. I use to go over there all the time for decoding purposes. What a shame that site is gone now... No

Wayne, The guy that ran Plymouth Central...was it Bob Pozniak? Would he still have all that info?...Could we possibly get/post it in a new section here on the CCC?

It was Jeff Pozniak Bob. I lost touch with him long ago.

PlymouthCentral is not gone for me because I saved the whole site to my harddisc before it went off.
It works like it did before. So I hope this helps!

Andy could you take some time and (page by page) post all that Plymouth Central information into a new thread in the appropriate section here so that we could all have it at our fingertips? What a wonderful addition that would be to the CCC. I know it wouldn't be easy...but it sure would help out a lot of folks here.

I for one would love to have a peak at the pages that have the VIN Decoder and Body Tag Decoder for the 58 Belvedere.

Thank you,
Bob

I´ll do that Bob. But only for the vehicle identification pages. Posting all pages of the site is not possible at the moment. It would take too much time, hope you understand Wink
Unfortunately, the "1958 Plymouth Body Tag decoder" will not work as a picture. It was some kind of programmed choice box. But I´m sure there are decoding lists on sites like ALLPAR.

I understand Andy...thank you for what you are able to do. I appreciate that.

AllPar does not have a body tag decoder...I couldn't find one anywhere. I remember Plymouth Central had the body tag decoder for the LA built cars only. It was the body tag found on the passenger side firewall at the top. The car I just bought is an LA built car and the body tag is there and all numbers are very legible. If I sent you a photo of the body tag or just the numbers from left to right could you decode it for me? I could send it in a PM or e-mail...whatever is better for you.

Thanks, Bob

I examined the decoder meanwhile. There are not that many information in there as I thought. I am able to post it together with the other information on 57 and 57 models. Give me 2 days I´ll open a seperate thread.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the help.
Looking at what Andy has posted it seems to me that the numbers I have supplied are for a Savoy. The car I am looking at is advertisied as a Belvedere. The Savoy is a P31-1 which I assume is also at the begining of the engine numbers. So, as the engine number I am looking at is P31-136461 and the VIN starts with 16 I assume it is a Savoy not a Belvedere.
Can someone tell me what the difference is between the two 2 DR Hard Tops?
Cheers
JOHN

That's awesome Andy that you saved the Plymouth Central site info, I was afraid all that good info was lost for good.

Andy, I really appreciate your willingness to help us out. If you're able to post the (former) Plymouth Central information here on the CCC...I'm sure countless 57-58 Plymouth enthusiasts will benefit from it for many years to come.

Thank you very much, Bob.

Plymouth Central Information over in the Tech Area "Build it Better"

Thanks Andy...that's quite a lot of work you did: Putting the extra pages together to substitute for the clickable code boxes that use to be part of the Plymouth Central website. I had forgotten about this "tricky part." I really appreciate it and thank you very much. What a nice addition to the CCC!

Bob
