Sorry I missed your question Mark. I used iMovers...just a broker out of NJ if I remember correctly. The guys name is Scott Peters. He was relentless in his pursuit of my business. I went on line and did the normal search for car transporters...and filled out the standard online form...received 10 quotes overnight...then went from there. The range in price for enclosed was $1000-$1800. The difference being...basically: do you want to wait several weeks ($1000) or get it picked up right away ($1800) This guy, Scott Peters started working on my quote before I even signed anything...really wanted my business and had a transporter ready to pick the car up immediately. I had no waiting and got a price down near the low end. It was a no brainer and delivery went just fine. no damage no problems...

Well...I finally made a decision to register the car today and make it a "driveable project." She's on the road now. Earlier I had called the shop where I get my inspections to see if it would pass inspection because a few days ago...after crawling underneath to have another look I had noticed it was missing the parking brake drum on the end of the tranny! No wonder the parking brake didn't work huh?! I was quite concerned this would keep it from passing, but I was surprised to hear today that the NYS inspection rules states that "before 1962 if it didn't have one...it doesn't need one to pass inspection." He called it a "gray area" because I had told him the truth...that I know it's supposed to have a parking brake...but since the trans. is out of a newer mopar it doesn't have one now. When he said he'd pass it as long as I fix the steering box leak, I decided to register it. So...my question to all of you out there now...You know the little adjustment nut on top of the steering box? This is where it's leaking...What seals/o-ring/gasket is there to keep the fluid in? Anyone ever work on these? A couple more photos from a few weeks ago (below) Yeah, definitely...I think this car needs to be driven, seen and enjoyed.  Wink  Thanks, Bob

Bob, I don't know what o-ring or what normally would need replacing, but before you tear into the box, try this:  Honda power steering fluid.  It has a seal conditioner that makes old seals stop leaking.  It works too as I had a leak in a car I used to own.  By the time I was through 1 bottle (they aren't that big) the leak had stopped.  It has to say "Honda" on the bottle.  You should be able to get it at autozone, probably some other places too.  If the leak hasn't stopped by the second bottle, it won't stop and you will need to replace something.  I would drain out a lot of what you have in there and put at least 1 bottle in.  That should help get it to the leak right away.

There is some truth to this power steering fluid with seal conditioner in it.. If the seals are not cracked or worn out completely it will most likely work. It softens old seals and causes them to swell. The same theory is true with the use of high mileage oils for your engines. They also have seal conditioners in them that do an amazing job of restoring seals. It may take a little time but I have seen them work first hand. Smile

Thanks Mark...Thanks Brian...I certainly will give this Honda Power Steering Fluid a try. Sounds like it's well worth trying. Another friend over the weekend told me of another product called Seal Lube. The only problem is that you can't get it over the counter. To get Seal Lube one has to go online and order at least 12 8oz. bottles and it's $14.95 a bottle for only 8 oz! On another note: Here's a few photos of some recent changes that I've made to the car...much thanks go out to Marc (58belvedere)...Wayne (1958 Bloodhound) and Joe Sportone who either posted these e-bay auctions and/or explained details to me.

Removed non-factory throttle cable and installed factory throttle linkage assy. that mounts on firewall.

Removed cheesy chrome air cleaner and installed factory correct 58 Plymouth Air Cleaner. Eventually I will be de-rusting it and painting it black.

For some reason, I'm not in a real hurry to get the ooogah out of there. Very Happy I might have to get a 30's car to find a home for it.

I removed the package tray out of the car today and found the original color. I'll post a photo tomorrow.

Well done Bob! Looks 1000 times better with the throttle linkage and correct air cleaner. Just an FYI, I accidentally bought two seal kits for the power steering box so I have one for you. Gary Goers makes new decals for the aircleaner. I may have one of those as well!

I'm looking forward to seeing the old girl in person one of these days! Smile

Thanks Wayne...very thoughtful of you. Good to know before I bought a kit myself! I appreciate your generosity. Here's a photo of the package tray...Body tag has EE3 for "Paint Code."  E = Misty Green Lt. on Top and Body...3 = Sport Tone Inserts

Has anyone ever seen a 58 Plymouth in this original Misty Green Lt. ? What does Lt. stand for anyway...light..as in light green?

I probably should post some photos of the floor pans next...very good news there...by the way :-0

Mr. Bob, here is some video (above) of a Belvy in original Misty Green. He has a few updates. It's entertaining.

So do you plan to call her Misty?

She's already got her own song!

Wow...I haven't heard that song in decades. Great song...brings back memories Joe. Thanks for posting...and like I said, I don't believe I've ever seen another Misty Green Lt. Belvedere before. Can't say I like that color, so I guess I won't be calling her Misty lol!

Worked on the car today a little bit. Took her out on the road for the first time. There's still no Power Steering. Ever since it dumped all it's fluid and I refilled it, I haven't had any Power Steering. The former owner said it worked really well even as he drove it into the transporter. Perhaps now there's air in the system? Anybody know any tricks to get the air out...if in fact that's what's going on?

Bob

the only way i know to get the air out of the power steering system is to turn the wheel all the way to the left then all the way to the right and so on and so on until it gets easy to turn. if it doesnt get easy then the pump may have been permanently damaged

Thanks Joe...I appreciate that and I will give it a try. Maybe the best way to do that would be to put it up on jackstands...start it and turn the wheel to the extremes then. I can't imagine the PS pump is permanently damaged but who knows? The car has had little to no use since pump was emptied...we'll see though. When the transporter guy told me it had dumped power steering fluid all over the car under it...I wondered why it didn't make that typical growling noise
.

yes jack the front end up unless you are feeling extra strong. i would think it would make quite a bit of noise lacking fluid. i am educated on modern power steering i hope they are not much different

yes jack the front end up unless you are feeling extra strong. i would think it would make quite a bit of noise lacking fluid. i am educated on modern power steering i hope they are not much different

Joe, When the car came off the truck, the PS pump was NOT making that typical low fluid growl...never heard it. (That may be a bad sign...now that I think about it...uh oh) It's full now...I cut/re-clamped the hose at the steering box and poured some PS fluid in it right away. Still do not have PS though...When I jack it up, turn wheel to extremes, I'll post results...bad weather again (you know) cold/damp/rainy...lousy to be out in the garage. I'm inside now...working on new package tray/dual speaker install.
