PostSubject: True Freedom   Wed Sep 23, 2015 11:55 pm

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

What does it mean to be free? Many people live their whole lives believing that freedom means living without restraint or that there are "no absolutes" anymore. This was the lie that Satan told our first parents, Adam and Eve. (please read Genesis 3 in clickable link below.)

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=genesis+3&version=NKJV

The Bible teaches a radically different kind of freedom. It is a freedom that transcends the dictionary definition of the word. It is a freedom that I personally found in the comfort of my own home, after 20 years of alcohol and drug abuse. Out of a very painful desperation to stop this self-destructive lifestyle once and for all, I got on my knees in my living room and begged my Father in heaven, the God of my youth, Jesus Christ to forgive me, come into my heart, save me from myself...and for all eternity. My new life in Christ began at that moment. That was over 18 years ago.

True freedom is freedom in Christ. It is not freedom from the law (the ten commandments), but freedom from spiritual death (hell), which is the penalty for breaking the law for even the slightest of sin. You see...God set the ten commandments in place as a guideline for us. He knew we couldn't keep them. He gave them to us so we would realize what sin is and that we need a Savior. He sent that Savior, Jesus Christ to us over 2000 years ago. You see...Freedom is not trying "to make yourself right with God" by keeping the ten commandments. Freedom is in the finished work of Jesus Christ at the cross.

But true freedom is also freedom in the Holy Spirit, Who Christ sent to help us after He returned to heaven. It is through the Spirit that those who are free in Christ fulfill the law of love! ( Please read Galatians 5:13-26 in clickable link below.)

Insight: Are you walking in freedom today? True freedom begins by knowing that "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16. True freedom is acheived when we live as Jesus summarized the whole law in two simple points: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind...and You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:37,39.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Well...I wish that were true Jackie. Remember...while Jesus certainly died for us all...there's only a small fraction of the population that have truly received this great gift of God. It takes a conscious decision...for us to receive Christ as Lord and Savior (after God has worked on our heart to draw us to Himself). And then it takes a very close walk with the Lord Jesus to experience this true freedom.

I have been saved for nearly 19 years now and still...I can't say that I'm there. While I never may get there 100% of the time (here on earth) it's certainly a goal of mine. I've had successful periods, but the world, my own flesh and the devil are always working against me. I've heard it described this way and I like it very much. "Once you have truly been saved, you don't become sinless...but...you certainly should sin less!" Sin is what gets between us and God. Experiencing true freedom can only be had by abstaining from sin. If one is not reading their Bible they can't even recognize sin! Once we have been truly saved, the process of sanctification begins (maturing in our relationship with God). Some of us grow slowly and some quicker than others. The key is to get saved and then let God begin His work in us.

I hope this makes sense. Your comments are always appreciated. When you take the time to do so, you're helping others in the process.

Thanks and may God bless you Jackie, Bob
