PostSubject: Western Auto   Thu Oct 22, 2015 1:49 pm

I had went to see family in Tifton GA last weekend and Monday before we went on the road I visited the Western Auto store still up. It has True Value as well. I bought a few things and I can say I bought something from Western Auto in 2015.

I took photos to share with everyone.

Amazing...I thought Western Auto was history. I bet Western Auto has been gone for at least 20 years up here in NYS.

I thought Schwinn was gone too. By any chance, did you see any Radio Flyer wagons?

Thanks for the very cool photos that bring back good memories...

Bob

They are gone and became Advanced Auto. There are only a few that exist that never changed their names and not specifically official stores. Also the ones still around are associate stores.

Yes Schwinn still exists and is in any store today because they have two divisions with one that cater to people who can't afford bike shop bikes and they have bike shop bikes fro $500 to thousands.

Ah yes...Now I see 'em in the last two photos. Amazing that these are still made. Could they still be made in the USA??? Hmmm. And clicking enlarges photos!..surely a great help for these old eyes. Much better now lol!

So Advanced Auto took over huh? I did not know that. They're all over the place now but they certainly don't have neat stuff like Western Auto did... Crying or Very sad

This thread surely makes me think back to when I was a kid. Everything changed didn't it?..and not for the better that's for sure. These stores used to carry good quality stuff made in the USA. Now we have Walmart where everything is cheap junk...and made in China.

I used to like Woolworths and Grants too. Anyone remember Arlans and Two Guys? Not sure if they were National or not?

Much more recent...Radio Shack is even gone now....

Thanks again...

Bob

Well these stores still had cheap stuff but were made in the US/Canada and maybe a few things from Mexico too during the 80's/90's. Like Sears and other stores Western Auto-Western Flyer bicycles were made by Murray, Huffy and other US/Canadian bike companies badged as the stores brands unlike today.

The last Woolworths I went to was in Ocala FL in the early 90's before I left there in 1995. They were still making awesome grilled cheeses. The last bicycle I bought in the 90's was a 1992/1993 Murray 24 inch 15 speed Megaflex bike.

Radio Flyer's are in Walmart too.
