PostSubject: "Do This in Remembrance of Me"   Sun Nov 22, 2015 9:00 pm

He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." Luke 22:19

God gave Israel a remembrance feast, the Passover. They were to remember how God led Moses to deliver the Jews out of slavery from Egypt. The lamb that was sacrificed at the yearly Passover celebration became a picture of a future deliverance from the slavery of sin.

Hundreds of years later, Jesus gave us a remembrance feast—the Lord’s Supper. We are to remember how Jesus, the Lamb of God gave His body and blood to rescue us from the slavery of sin. and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24-25

When I hear these scriptures being read at church during communion, I can almost hear Jesus saying to me, “Remember how much I love you, enough to lay down my life for you. Remember how merciful I am, not treating you as you deserve. Remember how much grace I give you, not requiring payment of your great debt. Remember how receiving Me as your Savior and Lord gives you eternal life. Remember the work I have begun in your life. I will finish it. Remember that some day I will present you before God’s throne with great joy, a trophy of My grace.”

Insight: God gave us ways to remember all He has done for us. Remember Jesus this Thanksgiving and give Him thanks.

Reader's Prayer, Dear God, Thank you for sending Your only Son, Jesus to die for our sins. Humble my heart Lord God, so I may receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior and be forgiven of my sins. I want to be with You in heaven for eternity when my days are over here on earth. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Ever stop and just wonder in amazement at Jesus self control? How many people could say that they would have the will power to suffer and die when "salvation" was simply a matter of calling for it? He could have called down legions of angels to lay waste to everything if he'd lost his temper.

I suppose the closest he came to even questioning his suffering was when he looked up from the cross and said "My God why have you foresaken me." Unless I completely missed the boat on that. scratch
