My home: yes, that's you-know-who in a place of honor on a shelf; my baby.

I got the Philco to work by looking up how online. Those of you who have working '50s TVs know this: you need an adapter called a universal transformer (got mine at Home Depot) and a digital converter box. Unscrew the built-in antenna's wires and screw the universal transformer onto the antenna's inputs, then connect the universal transformer to your converter box with a coaxial cable. I have the box connected to a DVD player using the player's colored wires. So you're faking out both the Philco and the player: the Philco thinks it's getting a signal from the air in '57 and the player thinks it's talking to a modern TV.

As much as I like Christine...and related items, the cross of Christ "jumps out" at me Serge. Glad you have that; Him "above all else."

Very cool how you got the old Philco TV working. In a day of age where people are putting old TV's out on the curb in droves, it's really good to see you're savoring yours. Very good info. on how you did it too...in this digital only age. Great job!!

Bob

Thanks, Bob. As you can tell from Christ's body on the cross, I'm a Catholic.

That's really cool Serge! I never thought I'd get excited about and old tv but it's neat to see long forgotten things being resurrected.

Thanks. That's what I'm about; it's not some hipster making fun of the stuff (irony, camp). I'm too young to have seen America's cultural '50s at their height but my first memories are of it fading away like a mirage through 1973. Needless to say, it's haunted me for 40 years, like being from another country (America became that different). Then about five years ago I realized I could bring it back at least in my life, so literally piece by piece I have, ransoming these things from dealers and giving them a true home again. Right now I've got my '56 NordMende Kadett radio on, lit up, playing Perry Como singing a Christmas carol.

What's so sad is the fact that we are a throw away society now, everything is made so cheaply with little to no regard for repairing something if it breaks. A lot of talent has been lost too, I mean, how many people out there can still repair an old tv or radio?

Very cool that you got that old TV back up and working. Very Happy

Also it's very cool seeing Christine playing on the TV. Ahh, so that's how Christine looks in black/white TV. Very Happy
