PostSubject: Wise Men Still Seek Him   Thu Dec 17, 2015 6:59 pm

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Speculation and tradition surround the Wise Men of the Bible. We envision three of them although the number of their party is not mentioned. The movies have even given them first names. Nativity scenes show them in the stable with the animals and shepherds the night Jesus was born, however none of these notions are in the Bible.

We know that the Wise Men came from a distant country in the east by following His star. They came bearing gifts, searching diligently until finally reaching Jerusalem and then Bethlehem some time after Jesus’ birth. They found Mary at her house with the child (not the “baby”), and they worshiped Him and presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh (Matthew 2:11-12).

Their journey may have started out with their own calculations and earthly wisdom but God obviously led them by a star in the heavens, causing their faith to grow and filling them with exceedingly great joy as they found the Christ child (Matthew 2:9-10). Had not God prepared them and awakened faith in them, they never could have persisted and dropped immediately to their knees, knowing that the little child was The King of kings, Lord of lords; God’s gift to the entire world.

Insight: You may know the Bible stories about Jesus. Go the extra steps of the journey to learn Who He is. Like the Wise Men of old, let’s make the journey to believe in the Christ Who came without that our lives might be rich in Him.

Dear Lord, Give me exceedingly great seek and find Jesus, just like the Wise Men did in the Bible. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
