PostSubject: Looking For Feedback On The New Reproduction Gas Tanks   Sun Jan 17, 2016 1:32 pm

My plan is to buy one of the new reproduction tanks on ebay. Only concern I have is that they are only warranted against leaks for 30 days. Anyone have any experience with these? I'm hoping they are stand up as I'd hate to have to clean and line my old tank! :Marc :

Thanks!

Wayne, I know Chris got a new gas tank but im not sure it came from ebay or not. You might want to give him a shout and see what he says. I have noticed that some of the reproduction tanks are bare steel constructed only and are not galvanized or anything. Which could cause early rot from the inside. Something to look at anyways. I don't understand why they just don't start stamping these out in stainless steal or aluminum. Silly silly to me. LOL

30 days...my goodness! Most anybody with any kind of normal family life would have trouble getting it installed within that short period. And then think about it...if you do this installation during the winter, you've got to fill the tank up to the top to properly test it out. If you can't drive your car to the gas station immediately...you've got to haul at least four 5 gallon tanks home and dump it in yourself. Better not order it until you're absolutely ready to install it I guess and...make it one of the last things you do before you're ready to take car on the road.  No I hope there's a couple of alternatives Wayne.

That's just not right...

Bob

I purchased one of these tanks for my 57. Only issue was they have a larger capacity than my original and required new straps and hardware.

Thanks John. Did the 57 have a smaller tank than the 58? I thought all 57-58 2 door hardtops were the same and only Wagons had the higher capacity tanks. I'll have to pay close attention to that as I have both a nice used set and NOS set of gas tank straps to chose from.

Wayne, I got my tank from a supplier in state, it's an original capacity 20 gallon. It came from these guys. http://www.classiccarautoparts.com/gastanks_dodge_plym.html

The repro tanks are made to replace those in Chrysler and Desoto cars, hence the larger capacity. They are painted aluminum color rather than zinc plated like the factory did, but as long as the car's taken care of and old gas with moisture isn't left to set in the tank, they're fine. These are made in China, but I've not heard of any problems, leaks or otherwise.
