PostSubject: 1959 Chevy Impala   Tue Mar 01, 2016 8:37 pm

Here is my 1959 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop. I know that she's not a Christine, but she was my 1st car, and I love her just the same even if she's not a Christine. And I think she is a really cool car too. Some really cool things I found out about the '59 Impala's is being a '50s car, the automakers were obsessed with the Space Age, and on this car it really shows. I believe this car was modeled after a rocket ship. Seriously! On the front fenders there is little models of rockets, the dash is like the inside of a rocket, there is a trim piece above the rear window that is supposed to look like a rocket exhaust vent, and other rocket related trim decorating all over the car. Very Happy
I am restoring her back to original, or mostly original. I'm going to hot rod her a bit too, cause that's just in my nature. LOL. Original paint was Gothic Gold/Satin Beige with a Copper interior. Restoring back to that, or almost, cause on the Gothic Gold I will be adding gold pearl, and on the Satin Beige I will be adding white pearl. But that will be way down the road since I haven't even started on the bodywork yet.
Interior will be restored back to all original. The interior will be done before the bodywork gets all done because its in really ratty condition.
I am luckier than I figured when I got this car because I found out that she has the original numbers matching 348 big block W motor, which is rare. This was Chevy's 1st big block, then followed by the 409. The 348 and the 409 are very much alike. So my car has the original 348, and it originally had a 3 on the tree manual tranny. Now it still has the 348, but it now has a Turboglide automatic from another '59. I plan to put in another manual tranny, but a 5 speed.

Here is what I have been working on most recently... Making the 348 motor look more pretty. Very Happy

What the motor looked like before...

And yes, the heads are supposed to look like that. It's why its called the "W" motor. Very Happy

Thanks Bill! She's mostly solid anyhow, I found a good amount of rust in the trunk that I was not expecting to find since it is the only rust I have found other than surface rust on the whole car. And will do on both; both on the restoration work and photos. Smile
