1968 Plymouth Fury III...I couldn't resist. This is the finest example of a survivor I've seen to date. Has 54k original miles. Looks even better in person. My wife and I traveled 4.5 hrs. to Youngstown, Ohio this past Sunday, looked it over carefully, bought it and made the return trip home (all in the same day; exhausting!). It was picked up by the transporter this afternoon. As I type, it's on its way home.

Here's the car being loaded only a few hours ago.

Very Happy  Bob

Congratulations Bob! Smile Now THAT is a sharp looking automobile. An original survivor you say? Looks phenominal. I like the color combo especially.. Dark interior and exterior... Makes a statement. I also like the lines and the way the quarter glass is angled. Looks to me like...

Wow, nice find Bob! It's surprising when you see how nice a car can remain if cared for properly.

Thanks everyone...It's unbelievable. To see a 48 year old car in my garage that looks like it just came out of the showroom...it's mind boggling!

I was even given the original window sticker...This car was so well-cared for.  Shocked

Bob

383 2 barrel...my fave engine. 290 HP...Powerful yet simple. Power steering/brakes and No A/C! This engine compartment has original dirt on it too by the looks of it. Looks to me that the factory chalk marks are still on radiator and trunk floor.

Wow, what a real nice looking Fury of yours Bob! And being all original, numbers matching, everything untouched and original and the wonderful condition she's in that makes her just so many times better!!! Very Happy Now, if everyone had kept their cars in such great condition when bought new, like what they did with your Fury, there would be no need to restore cars! Very Happy

Bought a pair of very hard to find rear wheel-well moldings for 68 Fury (w/out skirts) stripped anodizing, de-dinged and polished...removed skirts and installed them, found a nice set of 15" x 7" Cragar Super Spokes (used on Craigslist) and just had a new set of 225-75r15 whitewalls mounted and balanced. Looks much more sporty now.

Earlier work done: Fixed "hung up" e-brakes, removed/repaired fuel gauge, installed new rear (air) shocks, installed new fuel pump, new alternator, rebuilt carburetor, installed new rear brakes shoes, rear wheel cylinders, one rear brake line, rear brake hose, turned rear drums, cleaned/adjusted front brakes, greased front wheel bearings.

Also have to mention: The car idled rough when I bought it. I made sure choke was working properly, cleaned spark plugs, replaced points and condenser. It helped but was still not right. I decided to check compression. Three of the eight cylinders were low!  No I was so bummed. Five were at 130-140 and the three low ones were at 115, 105 and 85. I was especially worried about the one at 85. I consulted with several hobbyists and the  consensus was to drive it...with additives in the fuel and oil. Did so using Seafoam in oil for about 100 miles, then Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer at oil change and Lucas Fuel Treatment every time I added fuel. After 500 and 1000 mile intervals, I rechecked compression. The 500 mile interval revealed that the two higher of the "low" cylinders rose almost to 130 but the lowest cylinder did not. It actually fell more to about 75.  Rolling Eyes  At this point I was thinking an engine rebuild was in the near future. All the while, the engine still ran rough at idle but had good acceleration. At about 900 miles, It seemed as though the car was idling smoother. Still, I was cautious about getting too optimistic but hoped for the best. At 1000 miles I checked the low cylinders again. The lowest rose to 125 and the other "lows" were still up near 130.   cheers  Just finished the removal of  the lead plugs that were covering up the air/fuel mixture screws on the carburetor base, reinstalled carburetor, adjusted air/fuel mixture screws and she runs mint now. Now, most all the bugs (from sitting) are gone...and hopefully we're good to cruise without trouble. The car feels personalized now too!

Bob

I've used Seafoam in the past with older engines with good results also. I Used it to clean up carbon in the cylinders and reduce spark knock.

Thought I'd share this with y'all. When I recently purchased these new 225-75-15 whitewall tires and got them installed on my Cragars...I was somewhat disappointed. I even complained to the shop that I bought them from because two of the whitewalls scrubbed up nice and white and two scrubbed up poorly...to a dingy beige/off white. I tried everything in my garage, a stiff scrub brush w/ Simple Green, Bon-ami Cleanser...and then even Brillo Pads (which I don't like to use because they contain bleach). Even after buying/scrubbing w/ Black Magic's Bleche White and Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser, they wouldn't even whiten up the two dingy whitewalls! I gave up and reluctantly decided to just put the 2 dingy whites on the driver side and the two bright whites on the passenger side. After looking at the car outdoors last night at a local cruise, I had a renewed desire to figure this out, so I got on the computer and learned that wet sanding the whitewalls should clean them up. This morning I used some 220 and water...Low and behold it did the trick! I never knew this before. Did any of you?
