I think the service station deep in the city which my friend recommended ripped me off. Wanted an oil change, safety check, and some light body work; they had the car for a week and didn't get the body shop to do that work. Three days after I got the car back, she stalled and didn't wake up. Hagerty paid for the tow; I wrapped the car in her raincoat. I chose another shop, only in my town, one I know from word of mouth does classics. Not only did the man answer his business phone on Easter but he drove down to the shop that afternoon and unlocked his office to talk to me. So I'm optimistic. Never had any mechanical problem with this car until the first shop. Sh*tters. In lighter news, this hometown mechanic will replace my car's disintegrating hood ornament with a repro I bought from a retired Ford parts-counter guy in Louisiana with a machine shop.

Sorry to hear about your car troubles Serge, hopefully this other shop will do right by you.

Hope all goes well. The second guy seems to actually care, so he should be a better bet.

My guy thinks it's the fuel pump, not the starter as two people who heard her thought. Makes sense since she cranks fine. In fact I tried to peek in the gas tank from the trunk just in case she was out of gas (no way; I top up the tank) because that's exactly how she acted. God willing she'll be home tomorrow, with her new hood ornament and a recommendation from my guy for a local body shop.

Well, I DID try to top up the gas but my mechanic says she ran out! Anyway, now that she's been worked on twice, she sounds different. Starter worries me. Filled her up with premium with lead additive and now she's wearing her raincoat in the back yard.
