Hey John, Ive just tried coding that number and came up with nothing. The most I got was 1967 year and that the car was exported. All other info is unknown. But im not sure even the info I got is accurate. Is this a mopar vehicle?

Im sure BigM knows. He might actually have better resources for this.

Ok. This is a 57 Belvedere. The VIN Number is  16321786 which indicates it's a Plaza but the Title has this number on it and it states it's a Belvedere. The engine number is P31 - 357753 which tells me it's a V8 Belvedere. So I'm a little confused. What I'm trying to establish is whether it is a belvedere or a plaza. I thought a Plaza was a 2 door post car and that Belvedere is pillarless. The car with the above numbers is actually pillarless. That's why I'm confused. As well as the title being confusing!!

If its pillarless than it is a belvedere. Plaza's were only 2 door post or 4 door post. That being said you could get a belvedere in a post version as well 2 or 4 door. Sounds like you have a belvie there!

Belvederes can be a four door sedan too!

So does the VIN number seem correct for Belvedere?? Even though it starts with 16?? The reason I ask because I have some 57 and 58 specs which I got from a post on this site which give information on VIN of 57's and a Belvedere should start with 26 or a 96.
Can anyone shed any more light?

The old Plymouth Central information was posted here about a year ago by Andy. I believe it would have this info. I wish it would have been made "a sticky"...

Hi Bob
That is exactly what I am looking at and where I got the information that I have mentioned above.
According to that information the VIN starting with 61 belongs to a Plaza...how can that be when the car I am looking at is pillarless? Did plaza's come pillarless? Maybe some belvedere's came out with those numbers but are not documented or maybe the information on the Plymouth Central is not complete.!!
I have a copy of the title with that VIN and it states Belvedere!!
I'm confused!!

Or maybe the VIN tag was changed on this car when restored and the title doctored!!!

There were no Plaza hardtops...(pillarless) according to Chrysler build data. Savoys and Belvederes...yes.

Oh good...glad you found the Plymouth Central info...Well, If it offers some consolation, I too used the same to decode my VIN when I owned my gold 57 Belvedere 2 door hardtop. The VIN on my Belvedere came up as a Savoy. I thought perhaps my Belvedere was born a Savoy and I looked inside the doors and quarters to see if holes were filled etc....but I never could come up with anything.

Who knows what happened back when it was made...or the 60 years since?

Bob

I'm thinking the same as you but how does that explain to Title. Can the title be changed as well? As the title says it's a Belvedere or is the title irrelevant for this purpose?

Well the car I am looking at seems like a very nice car. Hopefully I can do the deal if the price is right. I suppose it will either be e Belvedere or a Savoy made to look like a Belvedere. Either way it should be one nice car....hopefully!!. I'm going to have a look tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted.
