Has anyone attempted to bench test a fuel tank sending unit? I have 2 originals and one reproduction. I'm curious to see just how accurate a reproduction is. I'd like to give this a try. Anyone have an idea as to how to go about it? Smile

They operate in Ohms. 15-210, I think.  Hookup between ground and positive in ohms mode 0-300. You should see meter adjust with swing of Rheostat.  Marc

What I want to do is wire them up to an actual factory fuel gauge Marc. I want to replicate the wiring in the vehicle. Theres only one connection at the sending unit so I'm a but confused as to how to wire to the gauge.

I found another one. This one may be more of what you're after Wayne, cause in the video it shows how to wire it up bench testing as if it were connected up in the car, showing the fuel gauge etc., and its for a Mopar too. Hope it helps.  Smile

I just had the sending unit out of my 68 Fury. I tested it right in the trunk as the wire that goes to the gauge was right there. Plugged that wire onto the sending unit stud...used an alligator clip to ground it...Had my wife sit in the car and watch the gauge...I slowly raised the float by hand up and slowly moved it down. Gauge followed what I did. Worked fine! I guess you could get a little more technical by mounting it to the side of an open container like an oil drain pan and then pour water in to raise the float etc etc..

Bob

Very good video! What I find interesting is how re pop stuff isn't really calibrated correctly. Sounds like they just get it close. I would bet most people rarely check these things. instead just throw it in the tank and go! Excellent info! Smile
