Hey guys, I'm curious if anyone has recently had their seats redone as I'm looking to get a ballpark idea of what I should expect to pay to have a shop redo my seats. I know it can vary greatly depending on the shop and what materials one would choose but I'm not looking for anything fancy. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

Chris.

Chris...In 2011-2012 I had both front and rear seats plus my door panels done in my DeSoto for $1500. Done by a "one woman" upholstery shop here locally. She did an absolutely beautiful job...worked with the original patterns using non-original materials that closely mimicked original.

Thanks for your input Bob, that doesn't sound like a bad price so I'm hopeful I can find a similar deal.

I'm going to redo my seats as soon as I can, don't know still anyone who can do it here but, I guess prices or anything I do couldn't be any help to you, as I'm from Catalonia.

Good luck in redoing your seats then, hope you post some photos of the "before/after" when you've got them done!!!

Sorry again for not being able to be much helpful... Neutral

Thanks Pau, when I bought my car, one of the consolations was the seats were already taken care of but boy was I mistaken! After removing the rear seat and seeing what the water leakage and mice had done to it, it was disappointing. I was hoping to save the seat covers and just redo the cushion but I really doubt I can reuse it which means redoing the fronts as well so they match, plus the front needs the foam replaced as it's disintegrated.

Chris.

This uses to happen,

When I bought my '64 Citroën DS the interiors looked great, but after a few days sitting in the car the old desintegrated foam started falling from under the seats and they started to look ugly very soon as they were loosing the "cushion" inside very quickly...

Hope yours can be easier to fix, even if they're in bad shape because of mice or the desintegrated foam, if you've got at least the complete covers they'll be useful to make the new ones taking the mesures from the old ones and all this things.. That'll maybe make it an easier and cheaper work I guess.

I kinda tore the original cover apart, not thinking I would need it for anything but it soon dawned on me that I should preserve it just in case. The replacement cover that was over the original upholstery is still intact but it's nasty from the mice nests. I've gotta make an attempt to clean the vinyl but I'm not too hopeful.

Chris.

Well I'm quite surprised just how clean I was able to get the bottom rear seat cover, I should've taken a before pic because it was so gross, black on the inside edges and smelling of mice but you can kinda see in one of my earlier pics what the inside looked like. Now except for some rust stains on the inside, it doesn't look too bad and it doesn't seem to smell either! I've also had to replace some of the damaged springs and connecting channel.

Put the fist coating of paint on the rear frame, I figure since I have this orange paint laying around, I'd use it first so there will be a nice contrast when I use black to finish.

I think my dog was enjoying the fumes!

Nice work Chris...looks great! I remember on my gold 57...I had a lot of welding to do to fix weak/broken springs. I never took the time to paint it up afterward though. You rock!

Wow...you are living in a garden of Eden there...grass is so nice and green. Our lawns are all burned out brown and crunchy...Driest summer here in decades...

Caution paint fumes are habit forming... lol!  Didn't give the little guy a respirator huh?

Thanks Bob! Yeah, I still have more painting to do so the dog will be hanging around Razz but I'm glad to be at this stage finally! Was your seat frame damaged at all? We were pretty dry for a while but it's been plenty green for some time.

Thanks Joe, might as well use up what's been laying around the house for years plus, it makes it much easier to see where I miss when I paint it black.

Yeah I'd say it was damaged...I had to weld/repair several of the front seat springs that were broken from being squished by 50+ years of big butts. Hee! Hee!

I didn't think you could weld springs because I thought the heat would temper the metal and lose their springiness.

It looks like at the you have a good place to start. The fabric on my seats were mostly gone when I got them. I haven't worked up the nerve to walk in to an upholstery shop and ruin someones day with "I don't have any measurements...or patterns... but I do have a fuzzy screen shot from a 1980's movie..."

Back at it some more, this time going after the backrest portion of the rear seat. This time I took pics of what the material looked like before cleaning it and it was nasty!
Original material and lots o yuck!

Of course the dogs had to give their assessment!

At least someone was more optimistic!

At least the rust and other stains are confined to the underside of the vinyl.
