Well, I committed to buying another 57 Plymmie. This is the one I looked at earlier but I needed to go back and give a closer inspection. As it turns out, it does have the correct year engine and transmission and it did turn over after some persuasion cheers  Bear in mind i'm only looking for the V8 drive train components but there's quite a bit of trim with the car. The seats are there too but weren't in it. What do you guys think? $2550 delivered to my house, about 50 miles away.

Doesn't get any better than that Chris.. especially with what your looking to do. Price seems fair and being close makes all the difference in the world. I'd say its a good move and you can rebuild the drivetrain at your leisure. Smile

It's difficult to know for sure isn't it Chris?. Sure would be nice if engine runs good and tranny shifts well. If they do, I'd say it would be a good deal. If you have to rebuild one/both obviously it will get costly. If the parts are decent and plentiful they may pay for a good portion of the drivetrain when all is said and done.

Best wishes Chris...

Bob

Thanks guys for your input, I was having the typical internal struggle with buying this car. I really didn't want to spend that much money right now but I really would like a poly for my car and what better than the correct year and size! I'm hopeful I can turn the body and some of the other parts so I can recoup some of the expenditure. There is another dual quad intake with the car and I already have one I bought years ago so one will be for sale.

Chris...can't you work a deal with the guy where you can work on the car at his place to try to get her running...before you pay him the money? Doesn't it just bug you that people won't raise a finger to get their cars running before they sell them? I see it all over. Makes me think they're trying to hide something.

Just my 2 cents...for what it's worth...

I don't like surprises...

Really? Hmm, unfortunately I'm not a facebook user but at least someone is looking! Smile The A/C system is still there but I'm not sure if I want to keep it or sell it off.

No pics yet, the car won't arrive until saturday but I'll take more when it does. The car you got from John recently, have you fired it up yet?

Well she finally arrived but unfortunately not without a couple of issues, the first being the guy can't seem to locate the title now and the second is the damage to the passenger side fender brow during the loading process. Obviously it had rust and was filled with bondo but dang it, it still looked decent! Now it has a dent and the rust hole is showing, Grrr!

Nice...I like the way you operate. Get it all nice and accessible for yourself and...have a concern for your neighbors too. The latter is definitely a problem in this day of age. Great job Chris!

Best wishes Chris...

Thanks Bob, technically we can't store cars in the back yard so I'm hoping it's out of site enough not to bother anyone. I had to lower the canopy cause it was just too tall with the normal legs. The plan is to get her running, then pull the drive train before winter.

I can now report that at 6:05 pm central daylight time on 9/4/16, a long dormant 301 V8 came to life after two days of tinkering! Woo! I just hope the transmission didn't get hurt do to very ow fluid level. I checked it before the engine started and the level seemed okay but I suppose years of sitting and leaking gave me a false reading, I'll get more fluid tomorrow and see if it functions but I'm so glad the engine finally fired up and actually sounded pretty good!

I hope so Joe as it seemed to be getting noisy after about a minute of running. After I added two and a half quarts it quieted down but it still doesn't register on the dipstick so I'll get some more.

Well I added more fluid to the trans and tried the shifter.....and it went into drive and reverse no problem! So now will commence operation motor pull! After a while anyway. Smile

Just a note, the fluid level for torqueflite is engine idling in neutral at operating temperature. As long as the fluid shows on the add mark cold it should be ok once it gets to operating temperature. It is very bad to have the oil above the full mark. The fluid could start to foam and the operation will suffer because the air bubbles will compress and the clutches/bands will not have enough pressure to keep from slipping.

Started the rear end removal process today, the v8 axle is out and in the garage, now I have to get the roller axle mounted but it doesn't quite fit since it's from a 67 barracuda, I'll have to make some modifications.

The replacement roller axle....

Made some mods today by drilling the spring perches so that the U bolt will pass through, but then I learned that the rear springs are different between six and eight cars so now I'll have to swap them out.

Well, I went ahead and finally did it, I pulled the motor and trans on the donor car. I had to improvise and make a redneck truck crane but it did the trick!

I had to make a stabilizer so the motor wouldn't swing while transporting it around the yard.
