Do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, . . . but rejoice . . . when His glory is revealed. 1 Peter 4:12-13

One can learn a lot by walking with others through tough times. That’s been the case for us before as friends and family have trudged through the difficult journey of cancer. My wife and I have watched, listened, prayed, visited and helped as several have endured cancer along with the treatments and the pain. And for some, just when it seemed they were in the clear, a new diagnosis reported more cancer.

The disappointments are obvious. Going through the chemo, the sickness and the side effects are a given. The emotional and physical toll are always difficult to watch let alone bear. The sadness and grief seems unbearable when battles are lost.

In years past, we watched a beloved church member face terminal cancer. During her journey, we heard her say things that we both gained valuable wisdom from. She spoke to us,“It has been a year of trials, but God has always pulled me in with His mercy and grace. May we never take our eyes off Him and His love for us. I want to make sure that through it all God gets the glory and that I reflect Christ's love to others.” Imagine that! As this sick brave soul faced more pain and struggles, her first priority was to show God’s love through it all. She anticipated the time when God’s “glory is revealed.” (1 Peter 4:13)

What mountains do you face? You too can depend on God’s grace to get you through whatever it is. Right now...cancer has hit our own home as my wife Debbie was diagnosed with Leukemia two weeks ago. She now gets to know first hand...what we've seen several friends and family go through. She has to fight the good fight depending on God's grace and has the opportunity to reveal His glory. I do too as her care-taker. Pray also that you might reflect God's love when and if the day comes for you.

Insight: The increasing darkness of trials only makes the lamp of grace shine brighter.

Whenever life’s burdens oppress you
And trials are too much to face,
Remember God’s strength in your weakness;
He’ll give you His power and grace. —Sper

Reader's Prayer: Help me Lord to get through the fiery trial that awaits me so that Your glory can be revealed through my thoughts, words and deeds. In Jesus' Name, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
