Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5

It’s easy for good things like family, job success, and financial security to become more important than knowing Christ. We may not openly declare them to be so, but in practicality, they often take priority in our lives. We turn many “good” things into idols. A startling call from the Lord may reveal the idols of your heart.

That recent startling call for me and my wife was leukemia. Not only does God’s Word show us, but the reality of her leukemia and the severity of the treatments have revealed some idols in our life. For her, the real possibility of death...for me, the real possibility of losing her has shown both of us Who's most important. The Lord Jesus' mercy becomes very real to us when we're about to lose something vitally important. You don't realize that Jesus is all you need...until Jesus is all you have. When left holding nothing but Jesus, we finally see that we’re holding onto everything!

Both my wife and I are learning that the struggles following a health scare like this are not worth comparing to Christ’s Glory that will be revealed in us. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18.

Insight: Trials and tribulations are but a light and momentary affliction compared to the eternal weight of glory I will know in Christ and in eternity. Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Corinthians 4:16-18.

Dear God, I praise You for Who You are. Knowing You through your Son, Jesus Christ is far better than anything this world can offer. I'm sorry that it took a health scare to bring this truth to light. Please help me to value You 24/7. In Jesus' Name, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
