PostSubject: 58 trunk letter measurement   Mon Feb 06, 2012 10:45 pm

Need another measurement please, since were just about the only people on earth that own the type of cars i have no one else to ask where the trunk letters go properly,i havent done any drilling yet,but what im doing is making a 57 trunk a 58,i cut the front strip of the hood off a horribly rusty 57 plymouth to act as a template,im assuming the letters on the trunk lid of a 58 is the same spacing on the hood of a 57? i found the exact center, marked it,i found that the first pin on the letter h is in the same spot as the first pin on the letter p, so i know how to make the words level across, what i need to know is how far straigth down from the letter p to the bottom of trunk lid is it,i think this should work perfectly if the spacing is the same,or does anybody know a better way,i figured alot of people in this club have done this conversion,or will in the future. thanks for any info i appreciate all the help every one gives so we can all keep are dreams alive. Rick.

I love the way people bend over backwards to help. Sort of brings tears to my eyes. Crying or Very sad

Okay here we go 10 inches even from side for the p center of the square hole 5 and 9/16 from bottom the in between letters are hard to measure I need a better tape measre since theres a very definfed curve to the decklid, but I can tell you the last letter h is 10 1/2 from side so the holes arent perfectly symetrical from factory ill get a better tape measure to do the in between letters as I dont think those take the same measurment either in between the p and the h hope this helps. Smile

Yes 5 and 9/16 from center of first hole to bottom. keep in mind the holes are square I guess u can measure the size of the square on the letters so you dont go too big. Your welcome -Carlos

Yes the clips won't go back on but the letters are the same. Single thickness of metal on the hood double on the trunk lid.

Mine are going on is I have to glue them on. But I was thinking of using JB on the end of the post or maybe cutting round holes in the second layer of metal to get the clips on. Where there's a will there's a way. Smile

Even 5 minute epoxy will hold with a thin layer on the back of the letter and a little dab from behind in the stud hole. Tape it flat for a while to let it set up. If any bleeds out ,have q-tip realy to sop up the excess. Marc.
