| I know I wont be getting a motor very soon but it would be nice to know ahead of time, Will the 440 work with the torqueflight push button transmission, If it wont I wont use it but if it will that would be pretty cool! ty _________________ Kiddo if you sold him that piece of crap you atta be frikin ashamed of yourself

| Ty the answer is yes and no. If you are thining that the old cast iron tranny will work the answer is no. You know Im not so sure about the 62 tranny Im thinking it might work I know you will be told by somebody here soon. But on the 63-65 they have 2 cables one is for the gears and one ifs for Park You will have to put your parkm on another lever of saoolme kind, You will also need to rework your pushbuttons in some way. I have a rachet floor shifter in mine because the whole drive line is ujp;dated from the engine to the rearf axle. Maybe someday if I could find a 65 tranny I would put the push buttons back in mine. But I don't know, You have to worry about the cable housings leaking. I guess if you had new ones on it would be ok, But with the cable shift you just have one more fluid leak to worry about. _________________ SIR ROBERT THE WISE 1ST KNIGHT OF THE C.C.C. |

| I have the Floor shifter in mine, Back in the olden days 50's and 60's Well Most of the Automatics came out in the Early 50's some in the real late 40's if i can remember right I think the oldsmobile came out in 49 . Well most of the Hot Rodders were changing their tree, colom shifters over and converting them to floor shifs. Some worked good and some didn't. I can remember in the 49-51 fords I had When your linkage got a little loose well it would try to go into secound gear before it went oujt of fikrst and woujld chnip a tooth on the gears. I know all the ol hotrodders liked the standard shift. They liked to shift gears. I have a manuel valve body in myh 58. What I mean by that you have to shift each gear from 1st to 3rd. Whatever gear you piut it in is what gear you are in. It will not shift Automatic. _________________ SIR ROBERT THE WISE 1ST KNIGHT OF THE C.C.C. |

Bob is right on there, Tyler.
I just saw on Facebook that Jim Rawa in New Jersey is selling a rebuilt '58 poly and rebuilt torqueflite for $3250.00 if I am not mistaken.
That is a good price for these units rebuilt, rather than installing a used drivetrain.

| If you do, would be nice to have somebody on hand to give you pointers and watch and make sure you are doing it right. Building an Engine is not something you can do out of a book or anything, If you don't get one thing just right she will quit on you or blow up in a heart beat. _________________ SIR ROBERT THE WISE 1ST KNIGHT OF THE C.C.C. |

| MY other grandfather that lives an hour away actually rebuilds motors And he said He would show me how to do it right, He also has a machine shop down there where I could get the motor bored out and etc... then I would only have to pay for that and parts. So Im happy bout that because If he didnt help me I would have to send it away to be re-built or buy one already re-built. _________________ Kiddo if you sold him that piece of crap you atta be frikin ashamed of yourself

| Tyler that is great, sounhds like a man with a plan. Machine work is a large expence in having an engine rebuilt and a lot of times a person don't really know who to take it too. _________________ SIR ROBERT THE WISE 1ST KNIGHT OF THE C.C.C. |

| Tyler I don't know of any place but Im sure some body in the club would do it for a reasonable price. I have had several of the shifters and don't beleive any of them had a problem mainly I just cleaned them good and lubricated them. Only problem you might have a cable leak. Or housing I should say. _________________ SIR ROBERT THE WISE 1ST KNIGHT OF THE C.C.C. |

| The Torqueflight are gettiong a little harder to come by and go for quite a lot at times, that is the three speed but the Powerflight are easy to come by and you can pick them up fairly cheap , cable I don't know that much about where you can buy a new one and Im sure they would not be cheap. _________________ SIR ROBERT THE WISE 1ST KNIGHT OF THE C.C.C. |

| I agree, cause then you can test it out on the drag strip! That'll be fun, Is the hood scoop supposed to cool the engine faster for better performance? _________________ Kiddo if you sold him that piece of crap you atta be frikin ashamed of yourself

| Scoop helps get a little more air where the carb can breath a litle better, But mainly I put it on because I had to have the carb to hood clearence because The manifold and carb are so high and when I put my other polished manifold back on with the adapter I would not be able to close my hood. You Know we should have this tred ikn Bob's Hot rod _________________ SIR ROBERT THE WISE 1ST KNIGHT OF THE C.C.C. |
