Awesome project, Wayne. I love that movie (Clint Eastwood's character reminds me so much of my stepdad) and love the car. Can't wait to see you work your magic with this one. Smile

Glad you approve guys & gals! Your probably right on the time frame Jim. Since my boys were and still are a bit too young to help with Christine the plan is to get her home and "Mothballed" so I can slowly do a frame on with my boys and teach them about cars. No Big rush as I'm still neck deep in the Christine project as you all know.

I've been doing alot of research on the net trying to gauge this cars popularity and desirability. I truly beleive this will be the next "BIG" movie car clone. Granted, it will take time but from what I've seen there are a number of forums out there and alot of guys trying to build and clone the car already. It was also in the movie "Fast & Furious 4" which has added to its popularity.

She's missing the back seat and A/C Compressor so I'll be on the look out for those. I'll build the 351 Cleveland motor in the car. I don't suppose anyone might know what kind of rims and tires are on the movie car in the last picture??????

Sweet, your car would be a half clone since it is almost the same car originally with some differences.

Wayne, looks like BFGoodrich Radial TA's and a set of Mag's.

Edit:
Here is a link you may find useful about the car (not sure you had come across it during research yet). The page confirms that the wheels are Magnum 500's. The tires are BFG's, I am 99% sure. I had a set on my 72 Dart, and they are an excellent tire.

Great find, Wayne!!

Is the car nearby, or do you have to get it transported home?

Looks to be fairly solid too.

Wayne I believe the rims are called "Magnum 500" just like the Chrysler ones although the center cap a bit different.

Thanks John. She is in Louisiana and will be shipped to a friend's before she makes her way here to NY.

Thanks for confirming the wheels for me Carlos. I know NOTHING about FORDS and Chaney tells me the engine in my car is a 351 Cleveland and not a Windsor! If that's true I am especially Excited! Smile

I'm happy to report that the GTS has made the first leg of her trip to NY safely! She arrived at Johnny's in FL at 12 noon today! Johnny got her to fire up (Running Terribly) of course and the Tranny is bone dry. Points are rusty and fried...oil is thin from being flooded and the wires and plugs look like they've been in the car since I was still in diapers! He will be doing a bit of work to the car for me right away including oil and filter...a bottle of marvel mystery oil, new transmission fluid, points, condensor, coil, cap, rotor, plugs, wires and air filter. Sadly, the car is missing the A/C compressor, back seat top and bottom, and has the wrong radiator and no fan shroud. Interestingly enough all the lights work accept the dash lights and the original radio sounds terrific. (For AM!!! Laughing )

Thanks Folks! Smile It's nice to get such positive feedback from everyone. I wasn't sure how some folks would feel being that our club revolves around 57-58 plymouths. It's nice to see we're not so narrow minded as to not welcome other makes and models.

Johnny is the man when it comes to getting one of these cocooned classics out of it's shell. Like Carlos said it would be a hell of allot easier if she moved around under her own power. Who knows, I may get here driveable and on the road to enjoy this summer! Smile Big Joe C has a ton of experience with Fords and has already offered to help me blue print the rebuild of the 351C. It's sure nice being a part of a club with such giving and generous people. Cool

No problem Wayne, I raced PRO 50 Mustang's for many year's in the early 90's and kicked some behind. I won several event's, street race's(late 80's) and made 5 magazine's. I loved Ford Racing as like Mopar, we were the underdog.

I had raced 351 W and Clevland's and boy I ran fast. I remember going 8.80's in a 88 Mustang, stock style suspension, no wheelie bar's and man I would haze those tire's for the first 60' ..... I can give you the combo you will need to have a Gran Torino that my idol- Clint Eastwood would love.

We are becoming a Movie and TV affiliate site!! I have 2 68 Charger's which will be cloned for Dennis Guilder Charger and "Bullitt"'s Charger and do not forget Chaney has a General Lee and building a "Vanishing Point" Challenger. Also Jett has a "KITT" Knight Rider as well. This is going to open lot's of door's for our club IMO.

She is going to make a great build. When I picked up the 60 Ply last week the guy had a 68 Gran Torino convertible sitting outside. He talks about restoring all theses cars but from what I see most of them just sit in the weather. The convert had a big hole in the top at a rear corner section. I asked him if he wasn't concerned about all the rain rusting out the floors and parts below. He seemed a little put out but thats OK as maybe now he will cover her. If I had the bread I would hav brought her home.

Gotta hand it to Johnny G and Donna Marie. They did the tuneup minus the coil, oil change, added transmisison fluid, cleaned out the entire car and even put the buffer and detail to it before she comes home. That's pretty nice in my book! These detailed pictures give me an idea of just where to start, what she needs and how to approach the overall restoration...

The hood I found was from a GT Ranchero I scrapped a few years back, so it did not have one.
