PostSubject: Motor Home Gen Set   Tue Apr 17, 2012 6:49 pm

Hey Guys and Gals I need some help if anybody knows anything about a ONAN 4KW Gen Set (Generator)
I have a problem with my generator on my old motor home. It will run just fine for 5 or 10 minutes and then it will start fluxuating up and down and back fires some times
I Was thinking the carb so I took it off and tanked it and cleaned it up and blew it out real goo and I still have the same problem. Im thinking maybe it waits til it gets warm before I have the problem. I am wondering if it could be the coil.

They are two plug wires plug into the coil , It doesn't make any difference whith is which, seems like you can't get it cross wired is that so.
The oil filter should be ok but on some of those things the least little prblem they will probly shut down or run like this one does.
I put new plugs in it last year , But think I will put new plugs and wires on it again. I really need to get it fixed by June for the Oldie But Goodie Race at Firebird Raceway,
any help would be appreciated,
John the Carburator cleaning and rebuilding didn't make any changes, But nothing lost and nothing gained. Hee! Hee!

I've got a log splitter than can be temperamental also, so I feel for you.

Regarding the generator, does it run a magneto?

John, I really think it is a fuel problem the way it is running, It is a fuel pump eating sonofagun, I have replaced it two times already, IOt is a low pressur 4 lb, but I have a couple of like 6 lb ones Im going to put ohne of them on and I don't think it woujld hurt to run it for a few minutes just to straighten it out Smile

Another thing you can try to9 determine if it is a fuel problem, is to spray a small amount of carb cleaner in to the car when the engine starts to sputter. If it smooths out momentarily, you have now determined that you are starving for fuel, and the fuel pump would be a probable culprit.

Hee! Hee! Im going to give that a try John, I think I can remember now the fuel pump has a filter built in the bottom of it I am going to take the filter out to see how it runs with out it. Then get a new one and repalce it if it is bad. Oh yea My lawn mower was just flooded and guess I didn't tryh hard enough to start it, I wasn't in the mood to mow the lawn anyways.
But I got it finished last night , Im gladd because it is raining again today. Smile
