.What type of exhaust tone goes along best with Christine? I know Its up to the individual's tastes, but what would you guys choose on your Christine, Loud? semi- loud or quiet rumble,or factory silent?

I am like Chrissy and like the loud rumble. Heck I ran straight pipes on my 58 back in 64 untill The the police made me fix it. I like the sound of the back pressure when you let off of it.

Hey Carlos, Chrissy is correct. Back in 83 they used Flowmaster's and a 2.50 exhaust. I too bought the flowmaster's 40 series in Stainless Steel. My exhaust will be custom bent in S.Steel as well so it look's great forever.

Me I just want a normal rumble, nothing loud although nothing quiet but I don't really know too much about that stuff.

Oh man! I love the way your car rumbles. Think I will record the sound on a cassette and put it in Jr. She will have a 440 racing motor with a cam and headers under her little hood. Very Happy

Flow master was just starting out in the early 80's and the studio was offered some proto-types that still reside in my car. They were not fancy, just rough and rugged. No custom bent stainless pipe, just welded into place where the stock mufflers were at. Cheers team, it's been a while. The Moochie Chase Christine will be at the Fall Fling in Van Nuys California this October. Her 30 year face lift will be complete, as she was originally from the film. No fancy trailer queen stuff, just Christine raw, as she was..Come on out if you can, more info to follow.

I seem to recall reading that it was a Mustang that provided the sound?

I read that somwhere too ,but after listening to it hundreds of times theres no doubt at least in my mind that its a Mopar, as the idle sound of a Mopar is very very unique!

the close up scenes where the engine was runnng the sound was added n later. driving sequences like the Moochie chase the sound was reorded as it happened, 1 can hear my 3 speed manual, rev multiple times as she's chasing Moochie. Early flow masters and Thrush were utilized, I also have an old u tube video with her sound from way back in the Beta days under Hylnder777

Im shopping around now for mufflers for mine too. I will be using 2.5 inch with 40 series Flowmasters or maybe the quiter 50 series. What offset did you use Chrissy ??? Did they go in straight in the front of the muffler and come out straight or in on the left out on the right ect ? I would love to see a pic if you have one...It will take alot of guess work out mine. Charlie and Carlyn

When Christine turned off like in the scene with Junkins at the School parking lot it sounded the way the 5.0 in the 1987 Cougar we used to have shuts down but I don't know.

I know that in the movie cause a guy told me on here with his original movie car the mufflers used were first gen
Flowmaster 40 series and I'm not meaning the ones like today, these were the same shape only not as long as the
ones sold today, I think the inked used were maybe not even 10-12" long I think summit sells a similar one, but if
you want to have that Christine sound go with 2 1/4 the louder and more open the muffler is the smaller exhaust
you wanna go for a low idle rumble like Christine. If you want a high rpm loud go with 2 1/2, I got 2 1/2 40 series
on my 68 Chevelle and I now wish I went with 2 1/4 than 2 1/2.

The first year I rode with my 58, I installed the flowmaster super 40. I thought it was too noisy with my engine (stroker). Beautiful sound from the outside but was too aggressive inside (unbearable). The year after that, I installed the Dynomax Super Turbo. Beautiful sound muffled and pleasant on a long distance! I have headers and 2 1/2 "exhaust!

I ended up using the 70 Series Flowmasters for SUV. Very aggressive out the back but nice and quite inside the car.

Waldron's Exhaust w/ the "Imposters" mufflers which is all SS and looks stock. The mufflers sound like Cherry Bombs similar to the movie are the best IMO. I spent a couple years deciding on what to place on my car so it sounds aggressive however not like a race car.

Give Waldron's Exhaust a call and mention my name and you are a member of the CCC for a great rate.

Here in Quebec, the police are very strict for the sound! They do not like flowmaster because it's noisy and a welded muffler! For example, the police will not tolerate 50/50 pipes on a harley davidson in Qu├ębec. They give contravention!

I personally like the sound of steel packed mufflers. Or you could go to:https://portermufflers.com/ and listen to the couple of systems they have on the site. I am contemplating these for my 440 powered 57. The sound should be awesome with the .509" lift purple shaft. Keep in mind, the cam you run also has an effect on the sound of the exhaust.
