PostSubject: Running dual exhausts without a crossover.    Wed May 23, 2012 8:21 pm

Hi guys,

I'm running dual exhausts on my '57 Savoy with a 318 Poly. However, I don't have the crossover pipe, and someone recently mentioned that with it the motor should run more smoothly and more efficiently.

The motor now sounds like it has a high lift cam and that is kind of neat. With a crossover pipe in the exhaust system, that might disappear.

What are your thoughts about running dual exhausts without a crossover pipe? Thanks for your input and/or suggestions. And might not using a crossover have an effect on the gas mileage? Furryfan.

Not a heck of a lot of people use a cross over pipe unless you want to get the maximum performance out of them.

If you are running a 318 I wouldn't even worry about it. My own opinion it would ot help enough to put one on.

But I am one guy and that is my opinion.

Bob

hmmm i would have to agree with Bob with a high HP motor the cross over pipe would probably be more effective

Crossover pipes help balance to exhaust pressure from side to side and scavange the exhaust. X is better then H and they help with low end torque. At high RPMS they do not have much effect.

Thanks for your comments, guys. I think I'll just keep the straight-through exhaust system without the cross-over pipe for the time being. That is, unless it becomes some sort of a problem to warrant installing it. I don't think that my gas mileage will be effected, although I have pause when I see the gauge move as I'm looking at it. Just kidding.
Best wishes, Furryfan.

IF YOU WANT TO REALLY SE THE gAS nEEDLE MOVE WHY DON'T YOU PUT A 500 PLUS HP

440 IN IT WITH A BIG OLD CAM AND A 850 HOLLY PLUS LOTS OF OTHER GAS EATING THINGS Hee! Hee! Your 318 shouldn't be that bad on gas. Smile

I can only imagine what my mileage will be when I get TootsC ('57 Belvedere 2dr ht) on the road. She will have a 440 @ .030 over, Mopar purple shaft (292 duration and .509 lift) and dual quads. On the other hand, since it not going to be a daily driver, who cares? At my age it's about time I did my last and most powerful Plymouth. Some of you have seen pictures of my last one, Eva 392.
