Thanks Jim, I have a friend that builds my tranny's so cheap He will build my tranys 's for 300 and if I want any extra things in it I just have to pay for them. I busted a case in one of the tranny's I had in my 63, Well I broke a drive line and it broke my tranny case and even tried to take my engine block out, Well I had another case and he changed it for me and did,;t want to charge me for it. I gavehim 100 dollars anyways and figuered I still got a good deal. It is nice to have friends that has worked on these things for 40 years or so. Smile

Another good source is Fatsco. They have full and partial kits available.

Gary Nelson [the parts doc] is another supplier for the kits, but he is retiring from parts sales. He is a supplier to the 300 club members.

One thing to remember when you get a blown up trans rebuilt - replace the converter and flush the cooler and lines!

Unless you get the coverter cut open and professionally cleaned out, you are just putting a bunch of trash right back into your fresh new trans. For a stock converter, its usually the same price for a rebuilt one as it is to get yours cut open and cleaned out. Might as well go for a little more stall also Very Happy

Same for the cooler lines and cooler. Plus you get to check to see if the cooler is plugged!

Rick That is some of the best advice you can give anybody, Lots of people takes great care of their engine and never even thinks about the tranny.

Yea need to flush the lines out and as you say the convertror will still have the crud in it and jusat as soon as it starts up it is right back in your tranny.
In my 58 I change tranny fluid very often and make sure you change your filter every time you do the fluid.

I can remember back in the olden days Hee! Hee! a person would only change their oil filter every other time.

Fatsco in NJ is the best source for these part's IMO. I used them twice with no disappointment's.

I used a Fatsco kit Joe recommended a while back, I just hope my Trans guy did a good job on it, the cool part about Fatsco is they use all fresh parts, Unlike Kanter whom sells decades old kits.I used Kanter the last Tf i had done and it did work however they sent me the wrong kit,A Powerflite kit for a Torqueflite, they took so long to adress the problem I just went to my local trans store and bought the extra clutches that were missing.

I heard the Tourqueflite uses a special tool to get the sprag in my trans guy says he was able to install without making a tool im scared....Hope it works. pale
Your right Rick cutting open the converter the only way, I had my done for $150 locally and the guy told me that while the converter wasnt damaged it did have 2-4 lbs of rust sludge! no way no how would it have worked without cleaning it out.

I have a friend that has done trannys for about 50 years he is retired now and has a full tranny shop in his back yard. He does all my trannys for 350.00 That is torqueflight Ford or cheby, yea I had a cheby done here about three or four years ago in my old motorhome it has a 400 in it. 350.00 parts and labor, now in my 58 It has a reverse valve body bolt in sprags ect , cost me for the extra parts Smile Can't afford to build one yourself for that price. Only problenm I ever had with his trannys was not his fault, Broke a case in my 63 once and he put everything in a new case and cleaned it up. wasn't going to charge me but I gave him 100.00. I thought it was well worth that. Smile Nice to have a friend that is a tranny expert. Smile
