PostSubject: VW Karmann Ghia Type 34 Modell´66   Thu Jan 03, 2013 11:49 pm

Here one of my "car-familie" its a Karman Ghia Type 34 it based on the VW 1500/1600 Type 3.
The rolling chassies with engines was build in Wolfsburg, VW and the bodies was build in Osnabrück from Karmann
From this Modell are build round about 42.000 Cars from 1961- 1969, with 1500 ccm 45 hp or as Modell "S" with 54 hp for the early Modells before 1965
the later cars after 1965 have all ATE discbrakes in front and a 1600 ccm 54hp Engine, with 2 carburators, all engines based on the old Bug-engine. Max-Speed 140 KM/h
My One have a 1700 ccm Engine from Oettinger build in the early 70th, with Oettinger camshaft, 2 x34 PDSIT-carburators, from the 1700ccmm Typ 4
engine from VW 411, the Max-Speed now is 165 km/h i lowered the torsionbars in front and rear ca 5 cm

In the last 3 Years i didn´t have much time for my cars, so its a little bit dusty, the picture is from last summer.

I love Karman Ghias! Didn´t know that the initial designer is Virgil Exner until I read a book about his life and work last year!

The Body and chassis are 99% rustfree and in very good condition, no rust repair, no bondo, only an accident from one of the 12 previous owners, very long time ago, had damaged the frontfenders, bumper and Headlights, the parts was replaced with new Karmann original-Parts very long time ago, the car was repaint in not original color in a garage, the paintwork is not so good, (dust) the original-tone was darkgreen/white roof.
interiour is original in beige.
If you need Frontfenders today, or a bumpers, you have a real problem, parts are very hard to find and very expensive, no reproductions parts available ,a frontfender cost more than 1500 Euros Evil or Very Mad
the front nose cost nearly 2000,-Euros, if you find one Mad
If you have the "little" female Karmann type 14, who based on a bug´s chassis you can find a lot of parts and many very good reproduktions parts, but NOS-Parts are expensiv too, but not so hard to find Very Happy
And if you have a rusty one like mine, you have a lot of fun cheers 👽
