PostSubject: AS CHRIST LOVED THE CHURCH   Sun Jul 21, 2013 3:52 pm

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word. EPHESIANS 5:25-26

What would you give to be perfect? I remember the first time I realized the same sins I struggled with before I was married were still present afterwards. I had hoped marriage would be a fresh start - and it was in many ways - but it certainly did not make me perfect. In fact, now that I was intimately sharing my life with my new bride, I was able to see all my sin tendencies even more clearly than when I was single! In Ephesians 5, the Apostle Paul shows us the goal of our perfection...and the price that Jesus paid for that goal.
The moment we recieved Christ as our Savior, He called us to be pure. But He gave up His own life in order to place that purity onto us. Jesus was sacrificed for us on the cross, and it is this same sacrifice that is making us perfect. It is interesting that Paul goes on to bring husbands into this equation. Amazingly, I am called to be an instrument for my wife's future perfection and glory. As I give myself up in love for my wife, I remind her of the way Christ gave Himself up for her. All of our hope rests on scripture "as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." Ephesians 5:25

INSIGHT: HUSBANDS CANNOT SAVE THEIR WIVES BUT WHEN HE DIES TO HIMSELF TO SERVE HIS WIFE, HE DOES EMBODY THE SELF-SACRIFICING LOVE OF JESUS FOR HIS BRIDE.

Dear Father in Heaven, I praise You and thank you for calling me into Your kingdom. Please help me to love my wife and serve her the way You would want me to....just as Christ came to serve us. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
