PostSubject: HOSPITALITY AMONG SINNERS   Thu Jun 12, 2014 9:01 am

Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance". LUKE 5:31-32

When the despised tax collector, Matthew, decided to follow Jesus, he immediately prepared a lavish feast to celebrate. Included in the invitation were Matthew's friends who were sinners. Surely included in this crowd were cheating rabble-rousers which were hated by law-abiding Jewish leaders. Little did the Jewish leader know that they too were proud in their self-righteousness and in need of the Savior as well! To their shock and dismay, Jesus gladly attended!

Note two lessons here. First, inviting someone into my home is a giant step deeper into a relationship, opening myself up to say, "This is me, for better or worse. Take a good look." Matthew wanted to know Jesus and be known by Him even with his smudged character, the raucous lifestyle from which Jesus would redeem him.

Secondly, Matthew no doubt wanted his friends to meet this life-changing man as well, to share Jesus' message with those least likely to hear it. As we step out of our comfort zones to involve ourselves with those needing God's saving grace, the Lord will use us to impact lives. Jesus stepped into the mess of sin that day and shone His healing light upon it. It was - and still is - His love that draws sinners to Him.

INSIGHT: If I only associate with those already in the circle of faith, how will those outside it experience the profound joy of following Christ?

Dear Lord, Help me to read and digest this message with an open heart. Jesus was obviously glad to dine with sinners because they were the "sick that He came for." Am I part of the sick? If I am, make it clear to me Lord...that I desperately need Jesus as my Savior...and my sins to be forgiven. If I am not one of the sick, am I isolating myself from those who are sick and allowing my precious gift of salvation go unnoticed? Let me learn from matter where I am in my walk of life. In Jesus" Name, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:11-12 cheers
