PostSubject: A Rapture?   Thu Jul 24, 2014 11:51 am

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18

The soul of every person eventually enters into eternity. However, heaven is not the default destination of every soul. It is the true hope of the genuine Christian, who has put their faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. If you are that genuine Christian who is relying on Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection for your salvation, you will go to heaven and will get there in one of two ways: by death or perhaps by the Rapture.

Whenever the subject of the Rapture comes up, there is controversy. Some critics argue the validity of the Rapture in Scripture and even point out that you won't find the word "rapture" in the Bible, but that depends on the translation of your Bible. If you have a Latin translation, then you have the word rapturous, from which the word "rapture" is derived. And the word rapturous comes from the Greek word harpazo, which is mentioned 13 times in the New Testament.

The most well-known verse that refers to the event called the Rapture is found in 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17: For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. That term, "caught up" is translated from that Greek word harpazo, which means to take forcibly, to snatch, or to catch up. And that is what the Rapture will be.

Insight: Have you heard of Hal Lindsey's The Late Great Planet Earth (1970) and the more recent Left Behind Series (books and movies) by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins? Imagine this. Some day...will you will be going about your business and suddenly in a microsecond, be caught up into God's presence, meet Jesus Himself face-to-face and be reunited with your loved ones? Or...will you be left behind, wondering what happened to all the people around you?

Dear Lord, I have just read a little about the Rapture and the controversy surrounding it. Whether it will be an actual event in Your great plan or not, I can't ignore the fact that untimely deaths occur each and every day. Please give me the desire to be ready for either day. I want to spend eternity with You. Please draw me close to You, so I will come to believe that Jesus died for my I will be ready. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
