My arm rest were in real rough shape when they arrived at my house and I all most threw them away but figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a shot.

The metal plates were beyond repair so I cut out some new ones from quarter inch finished ply.

Photobucket

I used small nuts and bolts too pull the cracks closed and covered them first with JB and then with enforced body filler. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they hold up.

Photobucket

I used a dense Styrofoam and thin layer of foam rubber for padding and heated the vinyl as I pulled and stapled it in place. I added a chrome strip just because I thought it might look nice.

They are a big improvement from the way they were.

Just a heads up, you used the HTML code which I use at Craigslist for the big pictures instead of the IMG code so I had to copy & paste them in my browser.

Well, what can I say? That's unbelievable! I should send you my armrests, they don't look much better than the ones you've started with Neutral

Very Happy Thanks Jim. I put a matting agent in the paint and plan to do the dash and door trim the same way.

I like your striped upholstery. It is you and says this is a race car all over it. I only rode in one airplane. Didn't like it...... I did my traveling on the road after that.

Crisy I have flown quit a bit, I got to where I loved flying. Some in the Military and when I was buying Japanese swords I was flyinhg every other week. Smile

Ok are you my wife? She's been restoring classics with her uncle for 20 years, (she's 25, loved the garage I guess) and loves betty boop. She even named our new Santa Fe betty, got the license plate and car seat covers and everything. Honestly if I get my Christine (working on the $ for one of our members one) she'll be showing me how to do most of it. I can repair a hole in the body, replace a floor, but when it comes to upholstery and engines, not for me. I'm more of a guitar fixer.

Shocked Am I your wife??? If I am we have a problem because I buried you years ago. Hee! Hee!

Welcome to the club! Your wife sounds like someone I would like. Smile You know I understand very little about the engine in my car. I just take it one step at a time and ask lots of questions. My car is being built by the club ...not me alone. Good luck on the purchase of your own Christine. Very Happy

The mechanical part to me is the easy part. The body work, Paint and interior is where you need some finess. The mechinical is nuts, bolts, measurements and torque. Pretty much follow the repair manual.
