Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

There is a traditional Irish blessing that says, "May the good Lord take a liking to you, but not too soon." That certainly captures a popular view of God, doesn't it? God is often viewed as both the stern policeman who keeps us from having fun and the One who can rescue us from the hell we deserve...for all the "fun" we've had. We all know how pleasurable sin is. At least for a while, until it catches up with us. Perhaps that's how you see God, too? I know many people who like keeping Him at arm's length until the last possible moment. I did it myself for many years. Why is a  "911 God" so popular?

The Apostle, Paul understood that we never should want God at a distance; we should always want Him close by our sides, 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week. Even though we fail to realize it, we desperately need God close with us. God has said "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you". Hebrews 13:5b. He does not delight in condemning us; He is our Creator who lovingly pursues us and draws us to Himself. To have God with us is to have God for us - for our good, for all of our lives. Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:10. Stop pushing God away. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8a

Insight: Do you want the Lord with you all the time or have you kept Him "at arms length"? Remember what Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". John 14:6. We must approach God through Jesus, His Son Who died for our sins on the cross.

Dear Lord, Please help me to let You in to my heart and life. I believe Jesus died for my sins...for the very sins that keep me from drawing close to You. I know You are always's my fault that I won't draw close to You. Please forgive me in Jesus' Name I pray. Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:11-12 cheers
