And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven". Matthew 18:3

Christmas is the season of waiting and wonder! As young children, we waited with ardent anticipation. Each decoration-every festive display, shop window or Christmas tree filled us with a sense of wonder at its glittering beauty. Every wrapped present, gift bag or stocking infused us with awe at its possibilities.

As we have grown, some of our wonder may have lost its luster. Instead of wishing that Christmas morning would hurry, we wish we had more time-to shop, to bake, to mail packages, to plan. Instead of wondering what is in the sparkling packages, we wonder how we will pay for them. We rarely gaze in wonder at the Christmas tree, rather we wearily pull out the decorations and lights again to "make Christmas happen." We no longer wait, we scurry. We've replaced wonder with worry.

One way we can become "like little children," fully dependent on the grace and goodness of God, is by enjoying Jesus like a little child enjoys Christmas. He bids us wait and wonder with anticipation of Himself...God's greatest gift!

INSIGHT: Has Christmas become just a burden with making Christmas happen? Try to remember that it has already happened. Focus on God's wonderful gift of Jesus Christ...the One whose birth we celebrate.

Dear God, Help me to realize that Christmas is not all about decorating my home, inviting people over to party, and for giving away presents. Instead, help me to become like a child again and be filled with wonder over how You loved us so much...that You sent Jesus into the world to be our Savior. In His Name I pray, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

It's so true that we have allowed the commercial aspect to take over and undermine the real meaning of Christmas, turning the holiday into a burden. Thanks Bob for helping remind us what it's really about!
