PostSubject: The Walk To Emmaus   Wed Apr 08, 2015 11:26 pm

Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us? LUKE 24:32

This episode after the resurrection of Jesus Christ is not often included in our Easter sermons. Luke is the only gospel writer who provides the details of what some commentators have described as "the greatest short story ever told."

When "the stranger" joins them, they are amazed at His apparent ignorance of recent events in Jerusalem. After sharing their understanding of Jesus, it is clear they still have doubts that He is alive, despite what the angels told the women at the empty tomb. Why else would sadness be written across their faces?

They are then treated to the greatest sermon ever preached, as Jesus - still unrecognized by them - explains Himself in the entire Old Testament. What a message He must have delivered to them! To have the Savior Himself show how the Old Testament scriptures prophesy about His own birth, life, death, resurrection and God's salvation plan for all of mankind.

When Jesus prayed and broke bread with them, suddenly their eyes were opened. It's hard to put ourselves in the sandals of those two travelers because we have the benefit of the full gospel accounts. But since we know the rest of the story, our hearts should be burning too and singing out for joy within us. For He is risen, indeed!

Insight: Have yours eyes been opened to see Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

Prayer, Dear God, I want my heart to burn within me too, like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Father, Help me to see Jesus for Who He really is. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
