Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when He broke the bread. Luke 24:35

After the walk on the road to Emmaus, Cleopas and his friend realized that the Scriptures had been fulfilled after all...because suddenly they realized Jesus was standing before them! In the best, most accurate biblical and theological lesson possible, Christ confirmed to them the recurring theme of the Old Testament Scriptures: that God was always restoring His people to Himself no matter what the cost, even though it was necessary "for the Messiah to suffer these things and enter into His glory." These two disciples were eager to understand the events of the crucifixion along with the earlier accounts from the women of His reported resurrection, so they listened intently.

When did they recognize Him? When He broke the bread and participated with Him in an act similar to His last supper before His death. This reminder was just what they needed to feed on. Death had indeed come to Jesus, but His life was stronger than all the forces of the world combined. What did they do next? They ran seven miles - in the dark - to their friends with this good news!

Insight: The broken bread is a picture of Christ's broken body on the cross.and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24. May this continually remind us of God's amazing sacrifice for us and His resurrection, the confirmation of the hope for us even in the most discouraging of times.

Profound Insight: God allowed His own creation to brutally murder His own Son so that this very same creation and their offspring could be forgiven of their sins! What's keeping us to run and tell others about Him?

Prayer: Father God, I thank you for the fulfilled prophecy of Jesus' death on the cross and the miraculous news of His resurrection. When I break bread with my friends and loved ones, help me to be at ease and never be ashamed to share the good news that Jesus Christ is risen and is alive with us today! In Jesus' Name, Amen

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Amen, brother Christian. As our brothers in Greece, Russia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania are singing today, on their Easter, Christ our God has trampled death by death. And we still recognize him in the breaking of the bread on our various roads to Emmaus.

Thanks Serge...Your analogy brought to my mind this scripture...and should further inspire the reader.

Death has been swallowed up in victory. “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:54b-58

I appreciate your encouragement brother!

Bob
